When you are checking the temperature of the tank, do you put the thermometer right under the lamp? We have ours on the side of the tank but not directly under the lamp. Just want to make sure we are getting an accurate reading.

Actually most thermometers don't give accurate readings,unless it's digital and uses a probe with a long wire connected to the actual thermometer.Even a cheap temp gun will give you much more accurate readings.You really need at least 3 readings,cool side,warm side ambient,and the actual basking spot on the warm side.
