Tazz and Zeppelin Tales

[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY] Its unlocked now!

OK so I've been a member here for a few months now and I only have my 2 little cuties in Introductions.
I think it's about time I made them their own real thread.
I'll give you a little background if you never saw them in introductions.
I got a male and female dragon from Cheryl at Rio Reptiles on October 18th 2011. Little did I know then
that these two would soon take over my life. I decided to name the female Tazz because she was so full
of energy and spunky. I named the male Zeppelin mostly because that is my favorite band, but also he's
very laid back. For the first few weeks I had them they were housed together and had a coil uvb bulb.
I didn't know any better at that time  . Zeppy was very shy and hid alot then. He didn't eat much
either. About 3 weeks after I got them I joined this forum and learned of my mistakes. I promptly
separated them and got them the correct uvb bulbs. They currently have the new t-5 arcadias.

I work at a hydro supply store and the plan when I got Tazz and Zeppelin was to have them live here
at the store. I didn't realize how attached I would get to lizards. We already have a Veiled Chameleon
and anoles and two water turtles that live at the store and I really have no problem leaving them here.
Our chameleon as beautiful as he is has an extremely bad attitude! I feed him and take care of him and
he still hates me. He's a look but don't you even think about touching me type of lizard.

So after I moved Zeppy to his own cage he was still really skittish and didn't eat very well. I decided to
take him home to live with me. After the initial shock of moving him wore off he stared to do a little
better. He ate more, and his stress marks weren't as dark. But he was still very skittish and tried to
hide every time someone walked by his cage. I have 2 kids, 10 yrs. old and 13 yrs. old, 3 dogs, a cat
and 2 tortoises at my house so it's not exactly quiet there. I then decided to move him to my bedroom
since it was much quieter and I could close the door and keep the cat out of there while at work.

I kept him in my room for about a month, maybe a little longer. But he wasn't getting any better. If
anything he seemed worse. He was terrified every time someone would come in the room. He'd
suck in the sides of his body as if to mimic being a stick.I felt so bad for him! I decided I was just
making him worse by locking him away in the quiet all day so I moved him back out in the living room.
And he slowly started coming around. He would even sit and watch us and the other animals sometimes.
About 3 weeks ago I bought him a bigger enclosure, it's a 36x18x17 reptile tank with a screen top and
vents on the sides. I also made him and Tazz their own custom cave/ basking spot out of foam and
grout. After the initial shock of being moved AGAIN I think he's finally turned a corner. He basks with
us in the room now instead of running and hiding. and when me or my daughter hold him he has no
stress marks! He still only eats when he feels like it though, so he's not that big. He's about 5 months
old now and only weighs 53 grams and 10 in.

Tazz an the other hand has done nothing but grow since I got her. She's full of personality and demands
my undivided attention. She comes home with me every week-end right now. Her light cycle during the
winter turns off at 5:30 so she goes to sleep as soon as I leave to go home from work at night. I probably
won't leave her here during the summer, i'll want to take her home to play with her in the evenings
when she's still awake. I guess i'll cross that bridge when I come to it. She's 5 1/2 months old now and
weighs in at 165 grams and 14 inches. It's hard to believe that she was only a couple grams more than
Zeppy when I got them.

Here they are the day I got them housed together in a 10 gallon tank

Good news! Zeppy seems to be feeling better already. I gave him his first dose of Panacur last Thursday
so it hasn't even been a week yet. He's already eating better and gaining weight. He gained 4 grams
since Thursday. I know that doesn't sound like much but it's a start. Yay Zep! :blob5:

I'm sure I'll have something else to worry about next week. Seems thats just how it goes with him.
But it's nice to have a few days off from worry.

Just thought I would update this thread. I haven't in a few weeks. Tazzy got a new viv today. I'm having troubles getting the temps right for her. I think I have to go buy a lower wattage bulb. Other than that everything is going great. Tazz just weighed in at 203 grams and 15 inches long. Zeppelin is 64 grams and 10 1/2 inches long. He's growing sooooo slowly. But he is growing so I'm not going to complain. Neither one of them has shed since January. And Tazz is growing like a weed, so you would think she would be shedding too. Should I be concerned?
I will post new pics soon. Any thoughts on the shedding thing please let me know.

I wouldn't worry about the shedding, really. I got my Smurf on 12/28 and just 2 weeks ago he started to show signs of pre-shed, but nothing really had shed yet. He has gained about 75 grams since then so you would think he would have shed a few times by now! One of my dragons only has a 3-inch stripe on her tail that is in shed. She looks so weird.

They grow at different rates and it's hard to even know why. Check this out - on 1/2/12 Ginger weighed 235g and Scarlet weighed 172g. Today Ginger weighed 293g and Scarlet weighed 280g. So it is like Scarlet blew up! LOL!!!

No, no pressure at all. :D
I only have one new pic of Zep. This was taken after lights out last night, he's snuggling on my chest
in between my t-shirt and sweatshirt. It's not the best pic of him, but the only one I have for now.

This is how Tazz feels about mornings. She's still in bed!
newcages002.jpg

This is a shot of her new viv. Which she does not appreciate!
newcages006.jpg

And here she is last week half asleep under my monitor.

This is our new rack we just set up for all of our cages. We have a red eared slider on the bottom.
Tazz has the whole second shelf. Her new viv is the biggest now! And a veiled chameleon on top.
newcages004.jpg

Here is a close up of our red eared slider. Her name is Olivia and she is the friendliest turtle I have ever
known. She will eat right out of your hand.

This is Leon's cage. He's a veiled chameleon. He's not very nice but I still love him.

This is Leon up close. He was trying to bite me!

Ok so that was some of my zoo. I will get better pics of Tazz and Zep and post then soon.

How is it having a chameleon? My boyfriend really wants one for his birthday, I've done some research but I don't know what they're like as a pet. Would you suggest people get one?

I love all your pics! You have some really nice set ups. :D I really, really, really want a chameleon. I don't care that they are hand-off and hard to care for. Can't be any more difficult/picky than my anoles. :? :D

Love the pics! You have a huge family, and they all look great. Does Olivia ever get to go into the outdoor pond? I'm just curious if she eats all your fish or not lol

Kaleen,
I think that chameleons are great pets. They don't like a lot of handling when they get larger though. When Leon was little he was much nicer. He just got meaner as he grew. I can still handle him because I'm pretty persistent. He's more bark than bite. He has bitten me twice though and it doesn't feel good! I would definitely reccomend geting one. Get a male though, they are more colorful and you won't have to deal with egg laying.

Shannon,
Thanks iv'e been working really hard to make sure they are all comfortable and have exactly what they need. If you can take care of
papa then you can take care of anything. Chameleons aren't any harder to take care of than Beardies though they do require different care. Leon has his own little waterfall in his cage because they don't drink standing water. And of course he has heat and uvb. But that's would be easy for you.

Kalyn,
Thanks, yes I do have alot of little children. Olivia most certainly does not get to go in my pond. She would eat all of my fish so fast my head would spin. She has her own little pond and I buy her feeders every week. It's really fun to watch her eat. She's such a piggy.

Tahnk you all for checking out my funny little family.

So yesterday was the first nice day here all winter. It was 68 degrees and sunny so Tazz got to come outside for a little bit. I sat her on the front porch on a blanket and she pancaked out really flat and turned darker than I've ever seen her. I think she liked the real sunshine. But she's afraid of airplanes. Every time an airplane flew over she ran and hid under the chair on the porch. It was pretty funny, I don't think i have ever seen her afraid of anything. I think she thought it was a big bird that was gonna eat her. :D

Awe hiding from the big winged things, too cute! It's nice when we can bring the babies outside!

Hoodoo full blackbeards anything at all that moves above him when outside. Tyrus couldn't care less..I'm not sure if this is ignorance or just his calm personality lol

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
