hi! its Em and Blue-Belle here.
i was looking through some posts on runny poop, b/c BllueBelle's hasnt been as "formed" lately as it used to be. its not super runny, just, not up to poop par!! Her first poop this morning was, eh, ok. then she pooped in her bath, and when i lifted her out, she still had some muscus-y looking leftovers hanging out, so i rinsed her off with some warm water. To the point, someone on here had mentioned that superworms were high in Vitamin A and could cause some sort of stomach issue. I had never heard that, so i was wondering if anyone of you had....
She was on crickets until i started introducing small supers to her...now she isnt so into the crix, loves the supers. I just dont know. I did just get back from a 10 day trip so MAYBE she is re-aadjusting to "life with mom" schedule and its throwing her off a little...she is active out of the viv, alert, sweet as pie, she is pooping regularly, but it doesnt LOOK right. Any thoughts on this Superworm post i read? It said, high in Vitamin A and not a great staple...so im like oh no. Im placing an order for repti-worms online today, i just dont know. Im hoping its nothing, if it gets worse i will take a fecal to the vet to check for parasites or pinworms or what not right?
her UVB is a reptisun tube 10.0
basking side 108 - 110 (digital reading)
cool side 82 - 85 (gauge reading)
substrate - slate/tile
30 gallon long for now (getting a custom made, wooT!!! so excited!)
she is roughly 4 and half months old, 9 inches long tip to tail, and i dont know how much she weighs...she is filling out nicely :)
had her since she was a hatchling (about 2 weeks old)
diet: always OFFER and SOMETIMES eats colllards, squash, and blackberries, main staple right now, small supers.
hydration: daily warm water soaks

Now, while i was gone, the last 2 days of my trip, my fiance added alfafa sprouts to her greens and she ate those. DONT know if that has anything to do with it. That was ... about 4 days ago and im wondering if they were NOT so in-date. ugh. Ofcourse, now that she knows mom is home, she ignores her greens. go. freakin. figure. ha! i wish i hadda a pic of her poop. sorry to be gross!!! its not horrible, its not GREAT. but now this whole superworm post thing has me worried. repti worms better? am i totally of track here?
any thoughts? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE OUR BEARDED DRAGON..ORG COMMUNITY <3

from the outise looking in :)

Many owners feed superworms as a staple diet, so don't worry about it. Reptiworms are also a great staple.

It is most likely due to the alfalfa sprouts. When introducing a new vegetable or other feeder, sometimes it can have an effect on digestion which causes the poop to appear abnormal. You can feed the alfalfa plant or the sprouts, but it's not recommended to feed the sprouts every day.

Just keep monitoring her and continue to give her warm baths. If she isn't eating the sprouts anymore, it should clear up quickly. If you see no improvement after a couple more days you may want to get a fecal done just in case.

I'm pretty much sure i KNOW you are right (fingers crossed)...you hit the nail on the head!
THANK YOU!
she's been off the alfalfa sprouts for about 5 days now and things are looking MUCH better! Not sure i will give her those again, although she seemed to eat/enjoy them while i was gone, i dont think they were "in date"...icky! My fiance is just now starting to warm up to her, he didnt know, i dont blame him at all, his intentions were SO good while i was gone....I just dont wanna risk it again. Keeping with the collard/squash salad with the occasional blackberry treat (she will eat a few small berries off the actualy berry cluster, if that makes sense?? ha!) Im JUST now getting her to actually eat some of her veggies so im gonna keep it simple like that for while :)
And yup, she IS doing GREAT on the Supers and cant wait to get my repti-worms this week in the mail! Ditching the crix, i think, Supers and Horns are so much...cleaner (at least it seems that way??) and MUCH easier to keep. Thank you SO SO much for responding, both of you...I TRULY appreciate it.
Her poop today was a big one but more formed than before, and had much less of a smell to it. Had her bath today too...we call them her "daily spa"....here is a pic of her before and after her bath, she loves that warm water!
you guys ROCK! you REALLLLLY do, thank you!!!
xoxo, Em and Blue-Belle
OH! does that look like the start of a tail shed to you? its been dulled over that way for about 2 weeks, and nothing yet...hmmmmmmm...wanted to get your opinion on that if you dont mind?

ahhhhhhhhh warm water soaks is my ZEN!

You feed supers at 9"?(I didn't start offering supers until Scout was 14" nose to tail because apparently the supers are harder to digest until the dragons are 15" because they have a kink in their digestive system...? I wonder if that's actually true...) Most recommend waiting until the dragons are 16" before feedin supers, but a lot of people have had no trouble with them. :3 I've never heard of the thing about the supers being high in Vitamin A, though....

It probably was the alfalfa sprouts. I've never had an issue with superworms and you said her stools are starting to look better? If they are, I wouldn't worry about it. But by all means keep feeding supers, just make sure she's digested them enough(I'd give 2 hrs after feeding worms to hold her.)

She's 10 inches in the dot now, we hadda little growth spurt :) and we had a full body shed yesterday! yay!

yup, she loves her supers...and her poop looks amazing
(lol this is so funny because i JUST did a thread today: "happy over poop!", you should read it, its in Genreal Discussion...it ended up being hilairious)
she takes them like a champ, LOVES THEM. I feed her mainly reptiworms i get online, and then supers every other day. those are her staples. It was the alfalfa...bad alfafa i think.
I have heard alot of ppl say wait until the are 15 inches for supers, but my choices at Pet Smart a few weeks ago while i was out of repti-worms were: mealies, crix, or supers...no way on the mealies, she has no interest in crix anymore (which im kinda glad, not a cricket fan) so i went with supers.
Blue loves them SO much more than crix and she is pooping great (with the exception of the alfalfa fiasco)

she also takes baby hornworms ince in a while too, these little TEENTY baby hornworms from Mullberry Farms, they are TINY. like a tiny short little skiny piece of string. but i wasnt going to get her the GOLIATHS. oh god no. that will come later, much later, lol. Supposedly the food they come with will grow them, she hardly notices them at all. i woldnt even notice them.
The whole Vitamin A thing was somethig i saw in a thread here once, and i was just curious, thats the first i had heard of it too...i think supers are great. a little out of date alfalfa sprouts? NOT SO GREAT. my fiance, god bless him, he tried so hard while i was gone. Thank goodness he only gave them to her the last two days of my trip. Back to collard and squash :) in date too! lol.
She is back up and running and eating and pooping and shedding and bathing and cuddling me and all the wonderful beardie things in life.
Thanks for the response!!! I really appreciate it :) :) :) your awesome! and i love the name Scout by the way! what a great name!!

Heh, no problem! I just reappeared on BD.Org after spending the last several months on a ball python forum(Planning on getting one of them next. ;) ). XD Glad I did too because I was a little irritated by how small Scout was after hearing about someones 21" 6 month old male. DX Anyway, that's not that big of a deal, I just need to feed him more..
I wonder how a small dragon would do on supers his whole life... that'd make getting another baby dragon a lot easier someday... I hate crickets. They stink and are expensive.
Superworms barely smell and are easy to breed. :3**No buying feeders for me!**

I named Scout because of the brown lines going from his eyes to his ear like all beardies have, but I thought it was really cute, so I kept it. :3 I almost thought of changing it at one point because I thought he was a girl, but he's male! so he's Scout!
Have fun with your lil gal. :3
I'll go check out your other thread!

LOL!!!!!!! HOLY BEARDIE a 21 inch 6 month old WOAH!
i have gotten complex's on here too about some people HUGE beardies at 5 and 6 months...like, WOAH! Then again, you never really know if they have them aged correctly, so they could be older or they could just be growing like weeds! which is great!
Im happy with Blue's size at her age, if KEEPS her rate, she will be a nice chubbers happy dragon. No matter what, we love them so much its ridiculous...ya know?
She was 3.5 MAYBE 4 inches tip to tail inches tip to tail inches when i got her. Total hatchling baby. So i have really gotten the pleasure rom her laying on my pinky to her laying on my arm...wow, what a great journey she has and continues to take me on. 3.5 inches is just, too small to be selling in pet shops like that. but thats a rant i wont go one
They do sell "small supers" online...that would be something to look into! If not, repti worms (which you prob already know, sorry) are easy to keep too, and the link below is where i get them...they show actual sizing of them which is awesome.

I betcha Scout is adorable...They make out hearts MELT!!! :love5:

The vets the one who said Scout was that old. XD I was glad I didn't get a baby that was 3" because it's unpredictable if they'll live or not.
:( I wasn't going to get a dragon the day I got Scout, but we walked into Petsmart to pick up a few more things for a bearded dragon when I saw Scout and one other baby sitting in the cage. I loved Scout as soon as I saw him.

Here's a before and after pic from when I got him, to now, in 7 days it will be exactly 1 year since I took this picture:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
