My beardo will not stop pooping on her log. Any ideas on getting them to poop where you'd like  My gecko does his busniess in the same place everytime in the corner away from everything like a good boy! Not the beardie though she lets it rip everywhere and then has no problem sitting on it all day!!

Sounds just like Rex! Right pain cleaning it thoroughly when it goes in the little gaps on the log :(

I too would like to train Rex to poop in EASY cleaning places :p

We have 5 beardies, 4 usually poop in their bath. The fifth, our youngest, still has 1/2 newspaper as substrate in his tank and that's what he poops on, he looks so funny pushing his butt off his basking rock to hover over the newspaper before pooping. Then he runs frantically to his hide to get away from it. The running around is the clue that he's gone, if one of us isn't fast enough, he'll paint his viv. Quite ukky to pick up, but what can you do. He has bath/water daily like the other beardies, but will hold his poop until he's back under his basking light. The other four will hold until their bath, my husband is retired, so he's home to pick up messes as they happen. I'm the bath lady, give them all baths before I go to work at noon. So it works ok for us. I have no other suggestions, except trade the log for a rock, at least that would be easier to clean.

Rubio's also the one who hates having a bath, so when we dump him in the tub after he's "painted" his tank, he really glares at us. He's a very funny dragon & really big considering he's 1 1/2 yrs old, 22" long & 750grams, so when he sling himself around he really slings. Cleaning up after him is a real joy...not!

5 dragons sounds like alot of work do you guys breed at all? Are you guys big hockey fans being that close to Vancouver?

I don't follow hockey, but alot of my friends and colleagues at work do, in fact they run a pool during the whole season at work.

5 dragons is alot but my hubby is retired, so I get baths, poops out of the way before I leave for work at 11a; then hubby handles the worms & bok choy treats in the aft. I also feed them salad in the morning. The two eldest, Sweetie and Lonzo, won't eat any salad unless they're hand fed, and they prefer to be on my lap. Talk about spoiled. We've beardie proofed the living room, dining room (for Rubio) and 2nd bedroom or office for Lonzo. Work they may cause, but I really love all of them. If I was also retired & we had extra $, we'd consider breeding, but babies are ALOT of work, so no breeding right now.

Canadians that aren't hockey fans ??? Thats a new one to me! :D Yeah I really want to start a small breeding operation here there aren't many breeders in the mid west so I don't think I'd have problems finding homes for them. Like you said its alot of work and can really consume some time too! Plus I'd have to talk my better half into it too...That could be more work than baby dragons! I got a question for ya its been several years since I owned a dragon and I just walked into her room and she was sprawled out on the bottom of the cage sleeping. She normally sleeps on top her log but it was a bit warm in the room and up top in the cage right at 80 so Im hoping she just wanted cooler temps. She woke up and gave me her normal why are you waking me glare. Im sure shes fine new behavior just always makes me wonder. I'll try putting a hide box in there tomorrow.

I'm the only one in a big family that doesn't follow hockey, it's never been an issue.

How old is your dragon? Sprawling on the bottom of their tanks is normal if they've overheated. They feel heat through their foreheads, there's a sensor there. So they'll head for cool areas to cool off, then back to the basking spot. Depending on the age of your beardie will show what temp the basking area should be: for babies-juvies 100-105; for adults 98-103, depending on what they prefer. We use Power Suns for the UVB lights, they are also heat lamps, and we don't put tank tops on the tanks. We have the lights on lampstands, so we can put them further up in the summer when it's really warm, and lower in the winter for more warmth. Make sure you have a digital thermometer to check the temperaturs of basking & cool areas. It gives your beardie the best temps for digesting, and good digsetion keeps them healthy.

Does your beardie like to cuddle? All of our beardies like to be cuddled, especially before bedtime. I never owned a dragon, or even knew what they were, until we adopted Sweetie from our son. She's now 3 1/2; Lonzo we adopted Sept/08 and he's 6; Angel we rescued in Mar/09 and she's 2. Issy and Rubio were rescued from a pet shop and are now 16 mo old. That's our dragon crew! Lots of work but lots of love as reward, so the work is worth it!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

She is 4 months old now and right at 10 inches so she's quite a bit bigger now than what she was in the avatar pic. Yeah I know about the pineal eye (aka heat sensor) I've read several books on them I had just never seen her sleep on the floor and found it odd, but hey why not? They expect the temps to fall at night. I also use 2 digital thermometers and lamp stands but I build my own stands with access to a machine shop. The one thing I didn't include is a way to slide it up and down but Im sure I can modify it in some why. I havn't tried the cuddling yet but I'll give it a go tomorrow evening
Happy New Years to you as well !

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
