Spooked dragon

I have a 2 year old male. He been behaving normally of late and full of energy. Yesterday he’d been out of his tank exploring happily and I think he forgot I was in the room. When I stood up it spooked him and he ran away in panic. I put him back in his tank and he hid in his cave for 3 hours. Took him out and he just wanted to hide. So put him on his favourite spot to sleep overnight (his log underneath his basking lamp so he didn’t have to move to it when it came on in the morning), but as soon as he woke he went to hide in his cave again.
Is it normal to take this long to recover from a scare?
What can I do?

Hello,

Yes, sometimes it takes a few days for them to get over an incident but usually they come
around with no problem. Give him a little bit of time & I'm sure he will be fine.

I really wish I could do a psychological study on beardie behavior. I mean they dream, and if they dream they think. I'm very curious as to what triggered that kind of fear response in a beardie that was content to run around again. And if there is an emotional connection to it because you're their human. *Sigh* a wasted life... lol

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
