I bought this little guy more than a month ago and he is currently about 4 months old. My husband and I bought everything we needed, did extensive research and so far, everything is going great for our first Bearded Dragon. I had many birds in the past and rodents but this is my first reptile.
I wanted to do everything I can for our Beardie. Recently we bought a huge new wooden home for him to grow up in along with climbing branches, small obstacles and places to hide in (its not overcrowded).
At first when we got him, our little guy loved to explore whenever we took him out. He'd crawl around the bed, my husband's shoulders and even try to sneak out from our sights! Now, I can't draw any conclusions from this behavior at first. Perhaps he was trying to escape, although our reptile shop manager said he was trying to explore.
Overtime, he ended up just staying at his basking spot all day (He's not sleeping or anything, he just looks around). Perhaps he would occasionally move around within his basking spot. (Yes, his temperatures in basking spot are optimal and the air temperatures in the container is also very good). He doesn't even eat his vegetables from the little dish (yes they are finely chopped; I usually feed him sweet peas, mustard greens (dusted)) unless I feed it to him directly by hand. I keep a dish of veggies in his tank. He may look at them, but he won't climb down his basking log to even check what it is. Then when hand feed him, he eats (-_-).
Is this normal behavior for a Beardie? I assume he is used to his surroundings and people that he is relaxed.
How can I train my beardie to eat veggies from his dish? I don't mind feeding him by hand but I worry for his future when his diet eventually go towards more vegetation. Sometimes I can get quite busy and there may be times when I might need to plop a dish full of his food in his enclosure.
What sort of behavior will he have when he grows up? I'm sure this differs from Beardie to Beardie.
Thank you!
