Lemon is a rescue dragon, that has been in my home, around 8 weeks. Her sister, who was also a rescue laid eggs about a month ago. Lemon, Has been digging away, and I set up her Lay Bin about 3 weeks ago, when I noticed she had eggs aswell. She is trying to lay eggs now. I can see that she is having contractions, and pushing away to no avail. This has been going on for about 12 hours, of fairly intence labor, and for the bast 6 hours, she has been having contractions about 1 a min. apart. She strains, and pushes, but nothing is comming out. Is their anything I can do to help her? She has one missing leg/foot, several missing digits, and I did make holes for her to drop the eggs in, and she has fixed my holes to suit her, but just can not seem to push the eggs out. I have tried rubbing oil on her vent, and giving her a warm bath, but nothing seems to help. Her sister seems to be very agitated, and my other two dragons are hidding in their caves. I am fairly sure I have a problem, and no ER Vet, and no Vet period till Tuesday. Any suggestions? I live on the Gulf Coast of MS, so if anyone knows of a reptile vet, that I can drive her to I am up for that too. Please Help

FYI, She has a Reptisun, 10.0 tube, temps 90 to 100, she usually picks a spot about 96 or do. She has a 72 gallon viv, and gets all the things she needs. I would be happy to go over her full set up, but I have taken all the advice here, and her stuff is spot on. I have only had her 2 months, so her lights are about 6 weeks old. She had a poor set up when I got her, but it has all been fixed now. She has been to the vet and had fecals, and her fecals are clean as of Feb 14th. She gets 2 baths a week. Any Help would be appreciated.

Hello, 12 hours is pretty early. She may do that for a few more hours yet. Some beardies can take up to 3 weeks to lay. They can also hold there eggs until they are comfortable with their laying spot. Just make sure she is alone in the laying bin and no stress to her. I would wait for a few more hours and see what happens. If nothing in the morning then I would do the warm bath again however this time VERY GENTLY massage her belly from behind the front legs towards the vent. Again BE CAREFUL because you don't want to crack an egg in her. Hope this helps...

She had one egg in her bath, and had backed herself into a corner of her viv, in a hide spot she has never used before. I am leaving her alone, till tomorrow, to see what happens. She will not stay in her Lay Bin, and her viv has slate tiles, but maybe she thinks the hide in the bottom corner of her viv is a good place to lay eggs? I hope that is the case. She is not digging, and she is not moving, so I am worried, and just going on hope that this will be egg laying and not dieing. I will check in on her first thing in the morning. She has also not eaten anything today. She is 400 grams, so I am not to worried about her not eating, other than the possibility that she is giving up.

Hello Wanda,

Is her beard dark yet?
When did she lay the first egg?
As Lance suggested it can take a little bit to lay, but I am concerned if she appears to be straining though.
If she just wont use her laybox that is ok, she will lay where she wants to.
I would bathe her daily as that may help & increase her calcium some also in case she is low in calcium for some reason.
If it is needed, then a vet can give oxytocin to help with laying.

Let us know how she is doing.

This is Lemon lastnight. No egges thismorning. One egg was laid in her bath on the night of 3/11, nothing since then, and no more visable contractions, or labor.I figure her styrofoam can be replaced. So am letting her stay in her viv. I am a little worried about leaving the styrofoam she has dug out in there with her. When she digs she gets it all over her. She looks like a snow dragons when she quits. I do dust her down, should I leave the loose styrofoam in with her? I will call my local vet and see if they can give her the drugs for labor. If not we will take a trip to get her some. I am not sure how long to wait to give her the drugs?
Thanks for the help!

Hello Wanda,

I would remove the loose styrofoam just so she doesn't ingest any. Her beard doesn't look black now, right?
As far as using the oxytocin, they need to confirm egg placement just to be sure they have dropped in order to be able to successfully induce labor. So it just depends on the placement of the eggs, currently.
Has she calmed down though, not appearing to be stressed right now?
Continue trying to keep her calm & hydrated right now. Is she basking any at all?

Her beard is a little black in those pics. Normal is for her to be all creamy white. On a scale of 1 to 5 with her beard color, I would say she is at a 3. She is calmer in the sence that she is not acting too crazy.
I have a call into the local Vet and he will get back to me on if he can do the x-rays, and oxyticin. Is there anywhere ya'll know of on the net that shows a pic of dropped eggs in a dragon? My vet is good, just not an expert, so I want to make sure I know what to look for.
The pics show about as high as she will go for basking right now. The temp there is right at 95. She can get higher if she wants but that is where she seems to be relaxing when she is not digging.

My poor snow baby. She is moving to the lay bin, like it or not. I got her CHE in today, so that will keep her warm, but she is gonna have to lay these eggs in the sand.

We just got back from the vet, he gave her a shot of oxytocin, and she has had a total of 3 eggs today. I will post pics of her x-rays as soon as I get them. I have a few questions. Where was the shot of oxytocin to be given? He gave it in her thigh and I thought the only places to give a bd a shot were, shoulder fat pad, lower midsection, and tail. If anyone knows where that shot was suppossed to go please let me know.

OK, my beardies are crazy! Lemon just got back from the vet, She is in her viv, laying away. Sophera, who laid eggs a month ago, 30 of them, was digging at her viv, so I thought she might be sympathetic to Lemon, and wanted to dig, so I put her in the lay bin. Sophera is laying eggs again. What is going on? My 6 month old is starting to act nuts wanting out of her viv, could she want to lay eggs too? I do have a male dragon, but these eggs are not fertile. So is just having a boy dragon in the house causing all this egg laying?

x-ray of Lemon and her eggs. Are these eggs where they are suppossed to be for the oxytocin? Our vet said she had 3 eggs, however she has laid at least 6 so far, and still seems to be quite busy. I put her in her viv, and added a mixture of oatmeal and sand for her to burry them. I have no clue what to do, I am just going on my gut feelings. Please if anyone has an idea, I would appreciate it.

So, Sophera had another 31 eggs today, Lemon has had eggs, but seems to be very protective of them, is this normal? When I go to check her eggs out she blockks me and hisses. She usually has such a sweet disposion that I was shocked when she did this, and other than giving her a bath, calsium, and food, I have not bothered her. The eggs are not fertile, so I figure letting them set overnight won't hurt, and I can remove them tomorrow when she goes back to her routine of beardie TV and a bath. If this is a bad idea for any reason let me know.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
