Soy Yogurt

I've been reading around on this forum that soy yogurt is good at replacing the better bacteria of the digestive system and that it is safe to use for bearded dragons? My Aussie has always had digestive issues, even since my vet prescribed vitamin B complex several months back since he diagnosed that his digestive system no longer produced adequate amounts of it after having such prolonged damage from particle substrate.

Anyway, just looking for ways to help his digestive system. He only ever goes to the bathroom once a month and eats very little as it is (unless they are supers or crickets. I think part of the reason, aside from his digestive problems, is that he doesn't have enough fiber in his diet. He REFUSES to eat any kind of vegetable... sometimes blueberries =P) and yet somehow remains the same weight. Is there a certain brand name to this soy yogurt I should use? Anything I should look out for?

If it's long term I would use the acidophilus or benebac. Pscaulkins has a beardie who no longer produces good bacteria and she gives him benebac once per week which seems to help him out a lot. Hope this helps!

I've heard of that too. Where can I get this from? I see that there is a gel formula and a powder formula... would the powder be better?

I was looking for organic alternatives XD since hes had sooooo many antibitotics/shots in his life. Hes had a total of 11 different sets of shots and medications throughout his life.

The acidophilus and benebac are probiotics which are much better forms than the yoghurt.
You can get the acidophilus or benebac from Tracies (drache613) website. I think it's bug-de-lite.com the acidophiz is in liquid form and beardies really do seem to enjoy it. I think it would be great for your little one!

is it fine to feed it like once a week. and do i have to feed both of those medicines together? the reason i ask this is because im starting to feed my beardie (not yet) wild breed phoenix worms and as a precation i want to make sure he doesnt get any parasites or anything from them. do i have to get a prescribtion from my vet? is this ok?

probiotics will not protect against parasites. They are a digestive tract conditioner, used when beardies have been recieving medications such as wormers and antibiotics.

Thank you T. I did buy some bene-bac for $7 before I saw the website Tracie's web page >_< BUT, now I know that it is there.
Hopefully my little dude will benefit from it (if I can even get it into his mouth before freaking out.) Hes grown so accustomed to identifying anything syringe or needle like. He refuses to lick anything off his mouth anymore and usually shakes his head in refusal so it goes everywhere and I get pissed off. But well, if its for his own benefit... might have to hold him down, haha.

The things we do for beardeds... And he is a pain in the a**. My male poops every other week, eats very little, gets a bath 2 times a week, and will lay around like hes miserable and dying for days, then run around the next morning like a maniac and hes been like this for 2 years. Hes only slightly observant. This fella has been to the vet almost 8 times in his life (I've lost count at this point).
The female eats ANYTHING, poops 3 times a week, EXTREMELY active and observant, 'spunky' (meaning, don't EVER try to hand feed her), lays eggs every other month and well... has never needed to go to the vet. (I got her from Daichu about 2-3yrs ago).

And I will always regret the use of particle substrate years back with the male. I think that was what did him in. But hes better now (if only slightly from the longterm damage). Hopefully this bene-bac can get him back on track with his digestive issues.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
