someone suggested i keep my crickets in my car >.<

so i shared on facebook that i got fed up with my crickets chirping really loudly, especially when i'm trying to watch tv (though it made for an interesting mood shift while i watched 127 Hours). i bought them about two months ago, but have only been feeding them to my beardie as treats since i switched him to reptiworms, and the remaining 20 or so have apparently grown enough to start chirping. so about an hour ago i took them outside and dumped them over my balcony into the woods.

i shared this on facebook as a sort of "haha look what i deal with to take care of my beardie" when someone commented that i should keep them in a different place, such as my car.

this is the same person that suggested to me (quite ignorantly) to feed my BABY beardie every other day so he doesn't overeat. so clearly this is not a person whose advice i'll be taking any time soon. to suggest i keep the crickets in my car is another of those "why are you talking to me" moments. um...for one, they'd die. two, i already stated that i set them free, so obviously i don't need that suggestion now.

there have been several times when i've had that look of exasperation because of this particular person. my face is sore from all the facepalming.

i'm not even sure how some people function...

I love the ignorant people who try to give suggestions on the care of a reptile or anything related to a reptile (such as the reptile's feeders) when they've never had one. Reptile care is a far cry from goldfish or even dogs and cats. Just because you had a family dog while you were growing up does not mean you can give any kind of advice on taking care of a reptile, or even a dog for that matter, so just shut up. And I hate the people who are like "EW OMG U HAVE BUGS IN UR HOUSE?!!?!?!?! EW OMG." For one, I have the bugs to feed my lizard. I like my lizard more than I like you, and by trickle-down, I probably like the bugs more than I like you. For two, I think the bugs are actually pretty cool. I'm sorry I'm not a normal girl. I dug in creeks and caught crayfish while you were playing dress-up with your barbie dolls. I have an appreciation for animals which you clearly don't share. If I put a pic of my lizard or my roaches on FB and you think it's gross, I clearly did not put it there for your amusement. If you don't like the pics I put on my FB, hide me or defriend me, because I don't need your mindless input on the pictures of my roaches molting or my superworms morphing into beetles. Some people like to learn about new things. I'm sorry that you don't share my interest in the creatures that inhabit this planet with you.

i just get so annoyed when people tell me what to do with my pets. unless i specifically ask for advice, i really don't want to hear it (especially not on facebook since i'm the only one of all my friends and family to own reptiles). and if my animals do have a problem, i generally research it first since i'm guaranteed to get more reliable information when i seek it out in places other than facebook. the same person that made this really ignorant and unwanted suggestion was also the one to tell me to feed my baby beardie every other day--and this was on a post i made to let others marvel at his growing appetite! it wasn't even a complaint, so why give me advice at all??

i posted a picture on my FB page awhile back that showed my beardie sleeping in my hair, and another person made the "ew!" comments, and went on to say that it's gross that not only do i let him sleep in my hair, but i also cuddle with him. well, i love my animals, and don't need those sorts of comments. i'd snuggle with my turtle too if she'd let me lol. heck, i'd rather cuddle with my reptiles than most people's dogs, all smelly and dirty, and they try to lick you. ick!

oh, and my favorite things as a kid were catching frogs and bugs and playing in the dirt lol. so i guess it does make since that i'd later own a "gross" animal and keep bugs in my house.

Yeah, someone I work with said "ew" when she saw a picture of my dragon, because she "hates reptiles."
WTF how can you hate reptiles? Snakes, maybe I can understand (even though I think they're awesome), but to expand it to just hating all reptiles...?! Ignorant! How can you hate a bearded dragon? THEY'RE CUTE. What on earth is there to hate about a lizard that will snuggle up against your neck to sleep?

I call Vash my "scaley puppy" because when I let him run around the apartment, he tries to get into all kinds of things he shouldn't (climbs into boxes, goes under things where I can't reach him, tries to get behind the TV, jumps onto things he can't hold onto and falls off, knocking stuff over in the process). Just like a curious puppy. Maybe he isn't soft and fluffy, but he has a personality, and you can tell there is intelligence there, and recognition, and... nothing that you could hate.

lol. i have two friends that refer to Archer as the "hairless kitty." they're both hardcore cat lovers, but even they succumbed to Archer's charms when we visited them, and they thought it was just adorable how he snuggles.

i also sort of understand not liking snakes (i don't mind them at all, but i know several people who are very afraid of them and i don't push the issue). but even my grandma who is absolutely terrified of snakes (seriously, she jumps at sticks in the grass that look remotely snake-like) held Archer and fell in love with him, so yeah, i don't get how snake-dislike extends to all reptiles.

So i told her about healthy gaping, and I asked her what her beardies temps were, and she said she had no idea. errrrrrrrrrr....ummmmm....ok. HELLO?!!??!
OH! OH! and even crazier...i was counteracting her comment about crix being left in the viv, and she insisted that crix would never bite a beardie, THEN, she said her beardie had sores around his mouth, but didnt know how they got there...ummmmmm, nibbling crix at night perhaps? or something else, i mean could be anything....ut wow. i was just like, wow. really? really? *le sigh*
