My dragon has a sleight prolapse, she had one previously about a month ago but it went back in a little while later, she had done it yesterday bigger than the last time but it went back in when I put her in the bath, today its small but still out for a while, is there something I can do to help get it back in?

You can bathe her in warm water to help ease the irritation. Remove all substrate from the tank if it's not tile. And i would keep her off feeders until it goes back in. Soft foods only, like baby food.

Prolapse is caused when you feed them food that is too big for them. Make sure you aren't feeding her anything bigger than the space between her eyes.

Also soaking in a very diluted sugar water will help with any swelling that may have occured, don't let it dry out and don't let her drink the sugar water.

Hello,

My beardie is 7 years old. Yesterday he quickly became very weak and I actually thought he was dead. He has a prolapse. It seems to be minor. He pooped two days ago and it looks normal. His prolapse is just a sleight curl of tender red skin. The warm sugar bath seemed to calm it and it is no longer visible. But he of course is still acting sick. I gave him two drops of veg oil and he is soaking in his very warm tank. I have researched the vet option. Is surgery REALLY the only thing that can save him? I dont have $1000. But I want to save him. He has always been healthy and playful...not sure what exactly happend. What are ALL my options before I make the trip to the vet? Can beardies live through this?

thanks for any help.

and I forgot to add...I put a little vasaline on his bottom with a small piece of gauze to keep his bottom moist.

So far I have not let him eat anything, gave him a warm bath and massage in sugar water, applied vasaline to his bottom with gauze, cranked the heat up in his cage, gave him drops of veg oil.
Any other suggestions????
Should I feed him baby food? Or just wait until his next poop?
Also, should I get a pet laxative for him?
thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what all you can do for him. But I'm bumping this up hoping someone will see and know what to do to help you. I'm sorry I can't help you much. There could be something else wrong with him other than the prolapse. A visit to a good reptile vet will probably give you some options.

I have heard that you can GENTLY try and push it back in using a q-tip with some vaseline/KY jelly/vegetable oil. I think that's the last option if nothing else worked before going to the vet...

Hello,

How is your dragon doing?
When you soak your dragon, make sure the water is a cool sugar water solution to help decrease the swelling in the area.
Use KY jelly or vaseline on the area to help keep it from drying out right now.
Are you planning on taking him to a vet?
They can live through a prolapse, but it absolutely is essential to get the problem fixed immediately & figure out the source of what is causing it.
Do you use UVB lighting & if so, what type & brand of UVB do you use?
Do you supply calcium supplementation for him too?

Hi, thanks for the positive words.

Theo is a little more energetic this morning. I give him a warm bath and message his belly about three times a day. I put vasaline on his bottom and make sure its very clean so it doesnt get infected. His prolapse is not exposed. Im afraid when he tries to poop again is when it will come out again. I felt his tummy and its not full of food. I just wonder if he is trying to pass a small blockage.

Right now he has a zilla UBA/B 15.0 bulb. I use a 100-150 watt buld depending on the season. (I cranked up the heat this weekend with two 100 watt bulbs) I have been doing the same things for him for 7 years. He has been the healthiest beardie ever. I give him a few crickets every week. He usually eats escole, kale, collards, carrots, occasional mango. I fell short on the calcium powder and have not used that in a long time. I figured he was getting calcium from the kale and collards.

I have read so much about this and I feel that a vet is either going to give him a lacative or want to do surgery...I just want him to have a good poop and i think he will get better.

I suggest you turn the zilla uvb bulb off as they don't give off good uvb. Go to petmountain.com and get the reptisun 10 tube. This is a better fluorescent uvb bulb than any you will find in the USA. If you are in the UK, get the arcadia 12%.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
