Sleepy Khalil

So, a quick Khalil update. Apparently no parasites or anything. He seems OK when you hold him and stuff, but his behavior hasn't changed much. For example, it's 8:20 am here, and he's hiding under his rock. He's awake, but he's not basking or anything. He hasn't been eating much. The MegaRay has been taken out of the equation (no UV right now).

Not quite sure what his deal is. I'm still nervous, because I want him back the way he was, awake at 6:30 and waiting impatiently for the food.

That's what I figured. It's all just kinda new to me. Plus, Mike is out of the country, and I will be forced to kill myself if Khalil croaks while he's gone!!!

I know you mentioned it but im to lazy to look it up but what did you decide to do with the uvb?

He is still without UVB. I think I want to replace the MegaRay, but I haven't had the chance yet.

Latest update. He pretty much didn't come out from under his rock all weekend, and is still under there as of this morning.

No, he's still too young. Lilly brumated at 9 months and 400+ grams, which I was told was young. Unless he has majorly grown, I don't think so. Did the poop check come back ok?

Well, he's 5 months and 830 grams now. No idea what that means, growth-wise.

Lunch time update: He's up on his basking logs, and took out the crickets, so that's good!

BTW, fecal test was negative for parasites.

Hopefully he just needed some time to adjust to the megaray. Did you look at what I did with the lights? Would that work in your tank? I'd let him have 10-14 days without UVB but then he'll need it again of course (insert your smart@ss remark!).

Well, I'm running out of ideas.

Khalil doesn't appear to be in dire straits, but neither is he back to normal. It's 8:30 am here, and he's still asleep, 3 hours after his lights went on. He was asleep when I got home from work at 6 pm last night. He doesn't bask at all unless I put him up there. He does eat, but it's only sporadically, not like normal when at 7 am it's like "Where's my food??" (Yesterday he ate somewhere around 20 crickets.) When I wake him up, he seems fairly alert and frankly, a little bit more cuddly than usual (less anxious to escape). When I put him in the tub he swims around pretty heartily.

The vet is convinced that it has to do with his bowels, and wants me to give him warm baths twice a day to help keep things moving. (This is the first time I've seen him. He seems like a nice guy, but I have no idea how good he is. He IS an exotic pet specialist, not just a general vet, though.)

The light/uv situation is not resolved yet. He's still on just a household bulb and a heat projector that combine to make it about 97 in his basking spot and 78 elsewhere. I haven't determined whether to go with a different UV or try the Mega-Ray again. He doesn't show any of the signs of beardies who had the "bad" MegaRay bulbs a few months ago (swollen eyes, etc.). At this point he's been without UV since March 23rd.

Just thought I'd share where things stand!

Your dragon is 5 months & weighs 830 grams?? How long is he? Can I see a picture of him, that is rather large! Is he a german giant?
So was he having troubles with the latest Megaray then he should be over that by now. You should contact John at the reptile uv to get it sent back for a refund or exchange.
What do you measure the basking spots with, a stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun? At 97 that should be fine for digestion though if you are using a digital probe or a temp gun.
Which UVB light are you going to go with or have you decided yet?

He is too young for brumation, but, it is out of season for brumation though.

Tracie, Steve missed a decimal point in there. Khalil is 83.0 grams. Here's a pic of him.

Temps are measured with the acurite thermometer. Steve is orderin the reptisun 10.0, but it'll obviously be a few days with shipping. Last night we were talking with Vicky, Diane, and Sandy and they seem to think that he is still lethargic cuz he doesn't have any UVB right now.

How is Khalil today?
I think that as soon as he gets under a good UVB light that should help him out quite a bit. He is a little cutie pie.
