My beardie has chronic gout- meaning multiple gout attacks at once/over a short amount of time. His feet and joints are very swollen to where his scales are pushed apart and his skin is exposed. One of his toes is necrotic and needs to be amputated, and I know he'll be fine without it.
What I'm worried about is the possibility that some of his feet might need to go. They look very yellow, and I think it might be yellow fungus or early signs of necrosis. We might be able to save them if we can drain the pus, but that is ultimately for the vet to decide.
I'm afraid that amputating his feet might decrease his quality of life too much. I don't know if he'll understand why it happens. I know that some lizards do very well with these types of disabilities, but multiple feet being aputated combined with chronic gout may be too much to handle. My biggest problem with this is that he is so young. He is only a year old, and if we can get this out of the way then he might have many more years ahead of him. But chronic gout will have to be treated for months or years and he'll have to live with the amputations.
Could y'all give me some advice? I'm just wondering what I'll do if it comes down to all that...
