Should I give him to a better home?

Ok, Im dealing with such a hard decision. Zinger had poop in his cage for two days, and that has happened about three times since i've had Zinger. He also sometimes doesn't get fed every day. I mean, he's still chubby, but that is wrong and horrible. Isn't that neglect? I don't know, I am just so blinded by love that I can't make this decision on my own. I need your help so bad.

All you need to ask yourself is that Can you give him the best care he deserves? Can you be more attentive?

The fact your even considering this proves just how much you love little Zinger!

Firstly, ask yourself why these things are happening.... did you not have time to check for poop? Was the poop hidden? Were you busy at feeding time? Had you run out of food?

Then, once you figure that out, try to think how you can better organise yourself!!!! I have a lot of help caring for my beardies - my fiance and his mother are both great carers to my little guys - is there someone else who could help you out?

Make yourself a schedule and try to work in everything Zinger needs and how you can fit it into your day!!

i made a list of daily things. Yes, I was busy at the time. Im gonna keep a log of each time and how much he eats. The fact is, I get so distracted, I tend to think that I fed him that morning. I think I can handle it with a log, Ill keep you posted.

A log is a great idea! I use a log for medications so that I can make sure that everyone gets their meds at the appropriate times. I think you'll find it helps a lot.

I'm forgetful sometimes as well and have a log for a few things in my life like bills and maintenance on vehicles and it has helped dramatically! Good job on taking steps to improve yourself! Keep it up and I'm sure you'll see an improvement!

Im going to definately try my hardest because I was pretty much hysterical thinking about it.

Personally, I think if you did give him away, he would wonder why you didn't love him anymore. That's the first thing I think about in that situation. When we first got Miss O and Miss Y, Miss O was fine for about one month. We got them on November 24th and by January 1st, Miss O has stopped eating much and, after about one month she was o.k. But looking back, I know she was wondering why her former people didn't love her anymore. She was a very loving beardie and needed a lot of love. I don't think I could every give any of mine away for that reason. Also, it sounds like you need him just as much as he needs you.

u just brought tears 2 my eyes! He does get a LOT of attention...I actually hold him b4 my homework gets done , it's just that I'm concerned for his wellbeing.

Get into a routine - change his timers if things are awkward.... try something like giving him salad in the morning then, as soon as you get home from school, clean up any mess, change his salad and give him his live food. Have your cuddle time with him after you have done your homework - that way you can be really focused on him instead of thinking about what you still have to do before you relax. If you can, squeeze in a second feed around dinner time - when im working, Kazi gets fed at around 3pm and then again at around 6.30pm. That way, you will have a few hours for him to digest before bed time PLUS, time for baths/beardie burritos!!!

Im sure everything will work out fine for you and Zinger!

Well then, the schedule and log are all you really need to turn yourself into an absolutely fabulous beardie slave :lol: ! I hope you are no longer doubting yourself - im sure Zinger is glad he has you!!!

Agreed... do the log... put it in an OBVIOUS place and just follow it and make sure by 6 pm at night everything is done in case you are missing something... i.e. food... you can still do it.

Thanks 4 all the help. I actually tried using a log, just to stay on track, and I only did it for two weeks, but I thought I had it all down, then I would get distracted and think I did it, then he goes 2 days without eating and I feel horrible by the time I see how ravenous he is. Here's my schedule for the week-

Fed Every Day.
Handled at least 2 times every day.
ALL POOP CLEANED DAILY!!!!
Bathed every other day.
Entire sifting, boiling, and baking of the cage every Saturday.

I have it on a check list. I think I have always handled him at least 7 times every day and he sleeps by me so, no attention deprivation there. :roll:

Really happy to see that you are not going to give him away.Dont be too hard on yourself.What you got got to remember is we all talk about being beardie slaves and that they rule us but what that really means is that they need us in so many ways to look after them.It is obvious to see that you love your little one cause you have realised what it takes to look afer him and you are putting it right.Keep it up welldone.
