Shedding Q - old skin that never shed or discoloration?

Considering how little I know of this, I'm wondering if Hermes is showing signs of shedding or if his odd dull color on some parts of his body are just old skin that never came off. Is something like that possible? That it never sluffs off and damages scales underneath? Here's some images to show you what I mean.

Near the top of his mouth. You can see the patterning on his head, but it's very faded.

His tail has a huge patch of very dull greyish brown that wraps all the way around. There are more smaller dark brown bands looping his tail all the way down, but that one giant greyish patch sticks out.

Last night he did wedge himself into the corner of his viv, rubbing his side against against his hide cover, but the he just sort of laid there looking really out of it. He did the same thing tonight but I think he was just more tired from being able to explore my office than he was trying to shed.

Do they start to get more agitated when they shed or do some get lethargic?

EDIT: Also, what happens if they have patches of skin during their shed in which that skin won't come off. Is assistance required at that point or are you to keep giving them baths and wait until it falls off? Can old skin get stuck on them permanently?

I'd like to know this as well, my Beardie just finished shedding his tail, and his arms and feet look like they are ready to shed, but won't start.

And also, as far as shedding, the skin hanging off will eventually fall off itself and peel the skin that hasn't started to come off yet. Don't assist the shed by pulling at the loose skin. Only way to really help him shed is to soak him in a warm bath for 10-20 minutes a day, this will hydrate him and help the shedding process.

If it is retained shed for a while after shedding, you can gently rub it with a baby toothbrush during the bath to help it off.
