i just had to share this experience because i am so enraged over it that i cant sleep at night.
the other day at my local petco (HELL for animals) i saw a tiny enclosure, only about 10 or 12 inches long, filled with baby beardies. selling for $79.99. EVERY single one of them looked like it was dying. they were so thin that you could see their bones. there was no food in the tank, except GIANT mealworms and a couple of HUGE (NOT small) crickets roaming around. there was no UVB light, and a small heat bulb only giving off very little heat. the temperature gage read 75 degrees. thats right ONLY 75.
i went to the cashier and demanded to speak to the store manager. i argued with him and this is what he had to say:
"bearded dragons are fine being in a basking temp of 75-80, they dont need it any hotter than that. and they will not get impacted from giant mealworms or large crickets. they can eat any size food as long as its as big as their head."
AS BIG AS THEIR HEAD? its the space between their eyes!!! and these worms were much larger than their heads anyways.
WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS?? its horrible. i cant take it anymore.
