Securing basking temp probes... How do you do it, and where do you put it so you're getting good temps but it's not in the way of them basking / they don't lay on it?

And where exactly do you put the cool side probe?

My basking area is a branch, not a piece of rock.

Bonus points for photos!

Most of them come with suction cup on the wire the you can stick to the glass ( you might have to get it wet for it to stick though ) and i think you can use tape to hold to basking spots. As for placement, on cool side you can just have hanging a couple inches off the ground, and as I said before, I believe you can use tape to hold it in place ( if you do use tape put the tape on the wire right before the probe ).

I have mine right on the basking site and right on the floor of the cool side. They get moved around a little and sometimes sat on but that's OK. I have the lines zip tied to the corner of the tank using the adhesive zip tie anchors and then they can't move much aside from the loose end that is on the floor of the tank.

OK, I have the cool side setup a couple inches above the substrate on the furthest away part from the basking lamp. But I just can't do the basking side correctly or he'll be laying right on it (and I'm sure constantly knock it off). Here's his basking spot. ;) (ISN'T HE CUTE?)

The hottest spot is more like the area where his rear leg is but still, you can see my issue.

Before I put him in I had the probe right where he'd be laying to be sure my temps were good (had to go up in wattage) and I've been checking him and the surface with my temp gun. But the probe is off to the side now so it's not as hot as the actual basking spot. I did find that twine held it in place and still sort of blends in at least.

(Background is on it's way!)

After recently changing my lighting set up with a reptisun 10.0 t5 with hood , my temps jumped around. I’ve been trying to get my temps back to steady 110 on the basking side for my little guy. I also changed the basking spot to a lower point with a different peice. The cork log i was using was a great hiding spot for crickets and also became Max’s # 2 spot. It was getting inside the crevices. Not good ! I came on this morning to ask how to make the probe stay where you want it without getting knocked off. Twine sounds like a great idea ! I’m going to try that! I’ll pick twin up today and my lunch break !
Thanks !!

It's OK to put the probe off to the side a little bit. As long as the general area is within range it should be fine. Notice in the photo my probe is sitting to the side on the bridge rather than right on the basking log. The log gets a little hotter but not by a whole lot. You can spot check using a temp gun but if they are using the basking spot then it's probably fine. They will move/avoid the area if it gets too hot.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
