The scales are rough and can and will irritate the skin, especially if there's any friction (such as the beardie rubbing against your skin or squirming). I encounter this kind of skin irritation handling rough-scaled animals that are especially squirmy, and every so often beardies can be.
Try using lotion more often to have better
hydrated skin - that helped me with some of the more minor irritations.
If that doesn't help (and you may not have as chronically dry of skin as I do
), it's probably not a bad idea to either protect your skin with a towel or to make sure you're not restricting your beardie's movement at all so that it's rubbing you.
