Runners

Hi! I am going to start building two beardie tanks (each 5ftx3ftx3ft) for my girls in just about a week and I am gathering all my supplies so that when I am ready to start everything is ready. The only thing I am having trouble with is I cannot find runners for my sliding glass doors! Does anyone know a good place to get them in the U.S. (I have only seen them for the UK) It's driving me nuts!

we found our runners at home depot in the hardware section across from the screws and tools, they are called aluminum c-channels. we used a .220 thick plexiglass as sliding doors and they run in the channels perfectly.

The plastic track is $9.60 for a 6ft section. I like these because they are divided so each glass pane has its own track. I'd advise buying as much hardware from McMaster-Carr as possible since shipping for a 6ft item won't be cheap (though their shipping was VERY reasonable for the huge box mine came in).

Having just built my own 4x2x2 enclosure I might suggest not going with a 3ft tall design. That is going to be a lot of wasted vertical space (unless you are planning some nifty styrofoam landscaping, in which case ignore this), and you'll have to use higher wattage UV lighting to get appropriate levels at the bottom of the cage.

I did buy the 4 ft section. However, since his cage will be 5 ft he'll need the 6 ft section, so that's what I quoted.
