Roach Bin Pics Thread

Would I be crazy for wanting to start a thread just for Roach Bin Pics? I always like seeing everyones setups as well as the inside of them to get better ideas for food and water gel dishes and overall setups, etc. Someone shoot me down if you think I am crazy but hopefully others will think its a good idea as well.... I will get mine posted ASAP but my camera is jacked up right now.

I've been breeding them for almost ten months, and I always look at other peoples setups. I'll try to get a pic of mine posted tomorrow.

I would love to see some! I just switched mine from an aquarium to a Homz 18 gallon tub, the temps weren't getting hot enough in the aquarium.

Here we go

I've got Discoids, and am using a cream cheese lid for water crystals, and just a section of egg crate as a food dish. That way I know the babies can get in and out. They like burrowing in the food too.

Lastly, one of my big girl who is sadly going down for the winter. Hopefully when she wakes up she'll bring her appetite... I can only imagine what several months of uninterrupted breeding will do to my colony.

Here's the top of my dubia bin, used two screen strainers(dollar store haha) on the top for ventilation and also two on the side right under those.

and the inside, egg crate and drink carriers and I use a regular heating pad on medium on the bottom.

here's a picture of mine a few days after i got my roaches. it looks a bit different now just because the food has been spread around quite a bit.

I use margarine bowl lids for water gels and fruit (that's what the empty lid in there was for... They have a habit of moving it around and hiding under it when it's empty), and just throw the food all over the bottom of the bin. I use a human heat pad on medium under the right half of the bin. The other blue thing in there is a small container of water with fork-holes poked in the lid. I was having an issue with females dropping egg sacks so I added in that container of water and a heat pad to boost the humidity. Things have been going well since.

Here is mine which you may have seen on a previous post. The black wire is a probe connected to a HerpStat Pro which controls the temps of my roach bin (human heating pad under the egg crate side), the other three are for my beardie's terrarium.

Man I just separated out 215 females and 52 males out into separate bins to see what I was up to and forgot to take pictures to put up here! Dang, well i guess it will have to wait till next time! And to think I started out with 8 pair from the http://www.theroachguy.com/ back in December!

Awesome pictures everyone..I am planning on starting a colony in a month or so for our new beardie. Great to see the setups to help when I am ready. Still looking into all the info. Any good sites for colony setup, care, seperation, etc?

I think the fiber in veggis and greens is good for the roaches' digestive tract just like termites or other herbivorous animals. Roaches are related to termites. They can thrive on low nutrients food, that other animals can't eat, like termites. but roaches also eat protein, but not a lot, I don't think. they're more like opportunistic feeder if they come across animal carcasses in the wild. I think they do really well on the diet rich in veggies and some baby cereal and oats. Some fruits is great, too!

Actually if you don't include enough protein in their diet they will begin to cannibalize on each others wings. These aren't the common american or german roaches that can probably survive on drywall if they had to, these are forest dwelling roaches.

I think they can get enough protein from the veggies...mine never had any problems with chewing each other wings off. I do feed them ground-up, low-fat, dog kibbles, like, once a week or every other weeks, though. I was able to raise a little over 100 tiny nymphs to adulthood with 100% survival rate and started two colonies from them by feeding mostly veggies.

I have a non-(high)protein blend of food that I tried, and a high-protein blend (oats and high protein puppy food). I've seen more production in the past few months since changing, as well as faster growth with protein. You're only hurting yourself by not using it the whole time. There is a reason that retail breeders use roach chow with high protein content.

Really? I didn't know that.... :) Hmmm.... My colony exploded in the spring and summer.... Now, I have thousands of them and they are still growing.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
