Hell All,
My name is Chris. I just recently bought a baby bearded dragon. I heard about this site through my wife's friend who has raised two dragons successfully. I have been reading non-stop. Great site. I bought a 10g starter kit, they called it, PETCO. (I know evil word at this site, sorry). My son has named our dragon Rex, in hopes it's a male. I'm not sure if I'm able to tell yet. He's been eating mainly crickets. Probably 10-12 a day. He is not interested in greens of any sorts yet. I have just bought my reptiworms as recommended by the friend and this site. I'm awaiting for them to come in now. I have a million and one questions so please bare with me LOL. I have a UVB light from Zilla. It's a Desert 50UVB T8 Fluorescent. This extends the entire top of the terrarium. One of my questions is, is this perfectly acceptable? I also have the two lights that came with the "starter" kit. There is one that is a yellowish tinted light and one that looks like a black light. The box says, yellow for the day and the black at night to keep the terrarium warm. There is one thermometer in the middle and the basking rock, which I put the yellow light over and the UVB light as close to it as I can. I also have a small log for jumping and perching. He's got a water dish and a small feeding dish. I dust my crickets and they are gut-loaded with Fluker's calcium cricket feed and water substance. Originally, for about 2 days, I had reptile calcium vita-sand in the terrarium. I read, a little late, that this was a no-no. So my wife and I put newspaper, one small sheet, and will be getting a reptile mat for him tomorrow. I'm learning, he's teaching me a lot and so is this forum. I know you can't see how everything is setup, but I'm willing to take and talk about discrepancies and such. The terrarium when UVB and yellow basking light are on, thermometer only read about 80-95 degrees. I'm thinking, this isn't right. Rex is very small, about 6 inches, so I know he needs a lot of TLC and I"m willing to do it. I guess I'm asking for a bit of help from the community. This seems like the very appropriate place to be. Thanks in advance for any comments or concerns. Feel free to tell me I'm messing something up as well, so I can correct it and have a happy healthy dragon. THANKS ALL!
