I have been to this pet store about 2 years ago and was grossed out to say the least. When we first pulled up the shop was in a shopping center and in front of the store they had a Macaw on a perch that was covered in poop and the bird was in the parking space in front of the store!!! When I said something about it I was told it was fine that the bird was well trained. When you walk in the front door that cages of birds stacked at least 3 high with no pan on the bottom so when one bird used the bath room it fell to the cages beneath it. They had a tortoise about 7-8 inches wide in a 10 gallon tank and was asking $100.00 dollars. I asked to see it and it had shell rot. They would not come down on the price so I bought him and he is living happily ever after. :)

Wow, Animal Control needs to be called. I don't know what they do with reptiles when they shut down a store, though.

^ This thread might interest you guys, especially the last few posts. Someone on there is actually trying to convince me that we should be thankful for stores like these, because if it weren't for them--regardless of their ignorance--we wouldn't have access to any of the supplies we need to house, feed, and care for our beardies.

Or, at least I think that's his argument. I can't tell. I reported it to the moderators for sheer ignorance and for the potential fight it can cause, because right now, I'm flabbergasted that ANYONE can stand up for these awful stores.

I just found the Pet Store's website -_- "http://animalatlanta.com/index.html"
They actually have a Nice Website, but it's very Misleading once you see the Shop. And Pretty much ALL the Picture's of the Animal's they have, are not from Their Actual Shop. I only Saw ONE Picture from their Shop of Emperor Scorpion's on Purple Sand, that's the Same kind of Sand the baby Beardies where on. They say they are Supported by Celebrities "LMAO" and the New's and Such. Once a Celeb walked into that shop, they would Turn right back around and walk out, Petco and Petsmart are Better than Animal Atlanta. And they said they Just got NEW Baby Beardies in Dx Which to me mean's the Last one's Died :'(

Talk about a tough one. There is a LOT of taboo debate in the ferret world over situations like this. People aren't very nice discussing it like here. So, its so refreshing to see people being honest and thoughtful.

For a long while people would buy dying babies from the stores to rescue them. But what they were really doing .... was giving a bad terrible place money and therefore the ability to keep doing it ya know? It was also sending a message to the breeder that more were needed for that client and so theyd keep getting more.

At the same time ... leaving one to die or go to an uneducated person to die? Thats not right either so I see both sides. The optimal thing to do is:
a) request a discussion with the general store manager. See if things improve and if he takes you seriously. if not ...
b) contact cooperate and be LOUD and especially compain about the store personal. if that doest work...
c) Report the animal abuse.
d) if its a horrendous, I mean horrendous situation and nothing is working you contact the media

Meanwhile what do you do while babies are dying and you are going through these steps? One option is to talk them into lowering the price since the care and therefore the "product" is substandard. At least they aren't really making money that way.

Its a tough one. It really is. Was it stealing? Yeah. Was it the right thing to do? Probably not given there are other things that should have been done that will help prevent more suffering. On the other hand ... what you did was the right thing for that specific lizard. So, I see all sides of it I suppose.

You know what might be cool? Find out what the guy might have cost whole sale ..... send that money, and explain what you did and why (of course do this all anonymously... and I'd be a little worried of what if they could look back on video tape and spot you). Anyway add a page on their care, a short list of dos and donts. And tell them if it doesnt change ... you WILL report them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
