Hi guys,
Not really a rescue. But technically its from a chain store, so it should be considered a rescue.

Long story short, I was walking through Petsmart last night and I happen to notice a very unusual beardie....a leatherback. Well i asked to hold him/her and absolutely fell in love. I know its a horrible idea to take another Petsmart beardie home after what happened to my Nova but I can't stand the fact that someone else with no bearded dragon experience could take him/her home and not give the little one the life he/she deserves. Im going to pick the baby up in a few minutes, and everything is already set up for him/her.
Anyway, the baby is about 4.5 inches long and a little dehydrated. I was just wondering what I should get for him/her to help put some weight on it. I have about 500 micro supers, baby hornworms, dubia, and a few waxworms. Of course, I also have calcium with d3 and a multivitamin.

If I get baby food, what flavors should I get?

Anything else you guys would suggest? All advice is welcome.

Ohhh! Can barely wait for PICS! :blob5: Love those little babies you know

Don't forget the greens!! Maybe you just did not mention them?
Chicken and broth only phase 1 baby food and squash are recommended most. You can get green beans and carrots for variety but I would go easy on the baby food if at all...sometimes some will get so used to it they become difficult to feed live bugs to

Maybe wait on the baby food until you see how he/she does?

I just got a digital kitchen scale for less than $20 and I am so happy I did! If you can you could check his progress that way but I know a lot of people do not have them.

I see hypos and leatherbacks more and more in pet stores now.....kinda sad really :( But it is wonderful you were able to save this poor baby!

Pics! please :blob5:

The baby is so gorgeous. Blaze can see the little one and is not very happy about it...even though the baby is arm waving. So Im gonna have to figure out a way to rearrange my room.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the greens. Hahah. I have collard and butternut squash. But I'll wait on the babyfood if he/she continues to eat. I even gave him/her about .5ml of water.

He/She did eat 5 micro supers. And apparently had eaten most of the crickets given at Petsmart.

I do have a scale, finally...hahah. The baby is almost 5 inches. And is only 9 grams.
Ill get some pictures tonight, and a video of the baby arm waving. Its too cute.

Hi new baby!!!!

I see this little teeny tiny dark grey/black dragon at my Pet's Mart when I buy Tiki crickets. If it were up to me I'd have 12. My husband would divorce me.

Best BEST of luck to you and the new baby! Make them fat and happy!

I know that feeling. I wish I could take them all home and let them grow up properly. I don't even want to imagine my electric bill or price of feeders. Haha. If I bring any more animals home, Im sure I would be a single lady living on the street corner with my beardies and others.
Thank you. I definitely need it with this little one. Thats what I intend to do. Lol.

Blaze doesn't really seem to mind now. I think he was confused at first. I didn't realize how small the baby is compared to him though...Blaze is a monster compared to the little one. I was holding the baby and my boyfriend was holding Blaze and neither of them did anything. Blaze got his serious happy colors on though. Weird. :-? The baby isn't showing any stress marks, but she/he didn't eat tonight, I offered everything to him/her, but I gave another .5ml of water. And he/she did poo. And gained a gram. Im hoping its just a little relocation stress.

Blaze is doing great though. Growing like a weed. And very spoiled. The baby will be the exact same way.

I have a Petsmart rescue and he was a little bitty thing just like yours. When I got him he was withering away but hes perked up quite a bit. His appetite decreased for a bit too and I just went with the squash/chicken baby food combo for about a week and hes back to eating live food again. Somedays he eats more than others but he never truly pigs out like my other babies. I have critical care/carnivore care on hand too now if I need it. Wonder if ours came from the same breeder.

Sending eat your nummies blessings your way.

Awh. Glad your little one is getting better. I think I'm gonna have the get baby food, cause I tried to feed him again and he looks at them but then just doesn't chase them. I hope this little one makes it, I'm so wrapped around his finger. If he doesn't eat, I give him water. I mean, he's pretty active always running around then basks then runs around again.

Maybe I should get some Critical Care. Ah! I'm so worried.

Oh, we still don't know if its male or female. For a female we were thinking Cortana. But for a male we don't have a name yet. Lol.

Your baby looks almost exactly like mine! Mine is a leatherback too! Pretty sure ours is a male we named him Cayenne. How weird would it be if they were from the same breeder and clutchmates.

Omgosh that would be so cute. They probably are brothers or brother and sister. Im pretty sure the big companies only have one breeder for reptiles, and even small animals. Not totally sure, but pretty sure.

He is really cute and looks pretty healthy. I wouldn't start baby food unless he is weak or loosing weight, baby food really is for emergencies only. Give her a few days to settle in and try feeding in different ways. My new baby won't eat a silky out of a dish but if I leave them on her basking rock, she will eat when I'm not looking.
I also have a long, shallow dish I leave a few tiny little roaches in and she will jump in and eat when I'm not watching. She is really shy around me, I'm betting your baby hasn't been handled much and is shy too.

Thanks Gail. I did grab some baby food just incase but I haven't given it to her. She won't eat out of a dish either, but if I put anything in front of her she goes after it in a few seconds. She did eat 2 baby horn worms today and 1 wax. Unfortunately my roaches haven't had babies yet, so I can't give her those. Yeah, she's a little shy too. I'm not allowed to watch her eat, I have to turn my head. Lol.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
