so we found an albino cricket in our cricket tank.. is it ok to feed or should dispose of it? :?:

It isn't albino, it means that it just molted and the exoskeloton hasn't hardened/darkened up yet. It is safe to feed it.

Agreed, that is fine to eat, in fact, it will be easier for your beardie to chew and digest, it just looks funny.

Good that she is eating a little now. If the crickets seem too active for her, you could either remove the back legs or put them in a ziploc bag & place in the frig for a few minutes before feeding, that will help slow them down.

Good that she is using her water dish and more active. How is she doing with her protein intake?

Bonnie is eating lots more now still not as much as i think she should but i measured her and she is 5 1/4 inches long approx, and she is eating wax worms crickets and veggies now.. she is very lively and watches me all the time. she is now hunting crickets on her own as well finally got her some small ones and she seems to like them better.

oh ...
and i know you asked this question but i dont know if it got answered or not ...
you dont need a red bulb, like at all.
just a white bulb, you can get a "basking bulb" from the pet store or use a regular household bulb. thats what i do. and i just play around with the wattages until i get the temp i want, and stick with that wattage bulb.
(its alot cheaper to play around with household bulb wattages, ha!)
as long as its not a color bulb (red, blue, etc) ... you want white and bright.

and just shut it all down at night, they sleep like us, in the dark :)
and i dont think it will get below 65 in your house, so you more than likely do not need supplemental heat at night. a cool down period is a good thing at night.
if you DO get below 65 at night, then get a Ceramic Heat Emitter like everyone has suggested on here :)

you can always put a shirt, pillowcase, towel, or little blanket in for your beardie (alot of people do this so dont feel silly doing it) ... it can take the chill off, keep them just right at night, make them feel safe, and its soft toooooooo :) :) :)

how's the eating coming?

we've got alot of smart and experienced people on this forum, so you are getting top-notch awesome adivce!!

She is doing wonderful now. She eats about 20-30 crickets a day, basks on her rock, stick, or now hammock, but she does use the cool side of tank now. She hunts her own food now too and she has grown a good amount as well. We use the red bulb for first thing in the morning to gradually wake her up kind of like a sunrise ;) and she seems to enjoy that. All in all Bonnie will grow to be big and beautiful. Thank you everyone for their help when we had times of need. Alsdo we have new pics of her up on our first post First Beardie Ever :)

Great to hear she is doing so well now. A few changes can make such a big difference. That's neat the way you use the red bulb to wake her up gradually, I never heard anyone say that before but sounds like a good idea.

so we have new problems with Bonnie :(. last night when we went to bed she was just fine this morning we wake up to find her twitching both her front and back legs were twitching bad. We went online and found that it could be two things compaction or not enough uvb and not enough calcium or not enough uvb and to much calcium.. We did something we didn't want to do we hooked her coil uvb back up just for the afternoon we also took her outside in the sun.. we know the uvb bulb is not good for her but right now that is what we have :(.. we checked on her this afternoon and she has stopped twitching badly but still has a couple toes twitching.. if there is anyone out there that knows what exactly what to do feel free to let us know.. also we have no money for vet so we have to do stuff on our own besides vets in our area are no good with reptiles :( we will keep everyone posted on her condition.. oh but on an up note she is now almost 8 inches :)

hey :)

oh noo, im so sorry!!!
you know Tracie's site has liquid calcium ... and its inexpensive, and she can tell you the dosage based on weight.
it has done WONDERS for my rescue. i got mine from the vet, but its the SAME thing on her site.
that way you can make sure she is getting the *right* amount of calcium.
she is young, so im thinking that alot of this can be reversed with a good bulb and some good liquid calcium.
Vitam B Complex from beatifuldragons.com SUPER cheap, and is also AMAZING for twitiching ... Lexi's twitching has decreased since i started her on it. It is very helpful in addition to the liquid calcium.

i knwo you are low on funds ... is there anyway to get a ReptiSun or Arcardia ... i can look back through the thread to see, i just thought i would ask, ha that makes me sound really lazy to not look back!!!
petmountain you can get that ReptiSun for so so much less money than stores.
i knwo youve probably heard that a million times ...
let me know what you think of the liquid calcium and Vitamin B Complex prices.

have you been able to save up for the linear tube ReptiSun?
i think its no more than 30 with shipping, possibly less ... i cant remember exactly.
but the liquid calcium and Vitamin B i know are at great prices. maybe, you can save up for just a bottle of liquid calcium and one ReptiSun tube. those two things are probably the most important right now.

is that possible? or is it simply out of your price range. i understand, money doesnt fall from trees.
but im wondering if you can set a little aside to amount up to the 30 dollars? that is what i had to do at times for a new bulb.

Bonnies twitching has stopped and she has gotten better. We will be buying her the new bulb next month on the sixth. we have started to give her calcium coated crickets 3 times a week now instead of the every day feedings we were doing with it.. We read on a site that this is about normal for dustings *shrug* could be wrong IDK but for now she is doing much better. I think it was a combo between not enough uvb and compaction.. :) but we got her to use the restroom by bathing her and have been taking her outside in the sun. doing these things she is now all better no twitching at all now. :) thank you for your concern

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
