Reptisun 10.0 T8 Zoo Med hood

Hi I just picked up a 40 gal breeder tank for 30$ what a deal!
I also had upgraded my lights.

Currently running a 10.0 reptisun t8 with the zoo med hood. (Obviously sitting on top of the screen).

I have read that using the hood because it had a reflector built in, is fine and doesn't have the be mounted inside the tank.
Can anyone confirm this Is this true ?
Does the hood make up for the loss of uvb through the screen ?

It ends up being roughly a wash - the screen reduces the output about 35-50% and the reflector adds about 50-90%.

awesome so I'm just gonna continue using the hood and not worry about mounting it inside.
