LOL, I have not been arrested (I'm far to sneaky :p )

I'm sorry for leaving you ll hanging, I know I hte it when someone starts something then just disaeapears! My dad started radiation for neck cancer and with amazing march weather, classes starting bck up and my computer crashing I haven't been onine. (Plus I haven't been getting emails saying people have posted, otherwise I would hve used my phone to at least let you know I as still here!)

But anyways I have relatively good and news for everyone

So here we go...
He's emiled me bck and answered all my questions and my concerns. Here's what he said and a little more of my thoughts

**Both beardies were originally rescues and they're both over 10 years old.

The dark one: very skinny but does not have MBD. The guy said he doe eat but greens and live food but has been eating but not as much latley. I assue this to mean he recently got sick or he's just old and nearing the end of his life.

The lighter one: she has a toumor in her mouth that affects her saliva glands and she produces too much, this drool gets full of sand and if not cleaned every day it sticks to her mouth. He said her eyes get sand in them from her rubbing her mouth in it, probably trying to get the droll/sand off her mouth since it's got to be unconfortable. He will be switching both their substrates and In my last emil I suggested the tile or shelf liner.

It's 4:50 and I've got class at 5 so I have to run. If I missed anything or you want more information on something just mention it in your post and I'll get back to you as fast as I can.

I love big lecture halls! I haven't checked on them yet today but the battle stilll isn't. Over yet! Ill be happy when they have nice clean aquariums and appear to have improved, ill also try to get some more pictures for everyone.

edit: doors were locked :( probably a good thing considering you wouldn't want people trying to feed them Cheetos or something. Hopefully after class tonight or tomorrow ill be able to sneak in there

Anyone know how to pick locks?

I hope you'll be able to help out with all the reptiles. The dragons definitely dehydrated and needs to see a vet. Make sure they get that sand outta there too cause it can cause impaction. Also with them living on sand its like them living in a litter box. I had it when I first got my dragon and it stained his skin on top of that it constantly would smell bad after he went to the bathroom although I would change it every month it was horrible just to deal with. It would always get every where in my room. I even found it on my soap bar once after giving him a bath.... I'm so glad that you have an opportunity like that, have fun with it and I wish you luck.

I love the way sand looks in an aquarium but when I had sand for my leopard gecko is was just impossible to keep clean and yes, forget about cleaning it in the tub unless your okay with bathing wig sand fir the next week!

And the door was locked again today, I could have just gotten very lucky that time but I guess ill just keep trying at different times. From the door I could see they were still on sand but I couldn't for the life of me see the beardies inside. I'm sure they were just blending on or hiding but id like to think they were getting baths or at the vet. Ill take a.pic of what I see from the door Monday if anyones interested.

I bet he's keeping it locked on purpose to keep you out! It might just be time to contact the university!! do you have a class schedule system that allows you to look up when there are classes in the room?? so you can be there when it will be open??? or can you ask your professor to let you in??? or find a professor with an office nearby and ask them to let you in??? or even a custodian - "oh I left my bag in there" :)....

Sounds like its time to get a bit sneaky. I don't buy the excuse the beardies are quite old. The one that is skinny doesn't look more than 5 years. I have seen 3 years old that look like they should be 10-15 due to their conditions.

I would do that the last post said. "Hey Mr Custodian, I left a bag in there can you open the door for me?"

It might be in the best interest to pay an unannounced visit to the Science department director and bring legitimate information from this site with you. Even he can't dennounce recommended information from 35,000+ Bearded dragon keepers on this site, all who have had their own trials and tribulations with their dragons and have come to form a common husbandry system that works.
Offer to take them to a vet so long as the university foots the bill, at least to have a fecal exam and possibly blood drawn in order to do a full battery of tests on them. And also offer to clip the nails of that one who has 180 degree + nails. Most of that is just caratin and the vein only goes so far so you can clip most of it off.

Hi Andi,

Even if the beardies are getting old, that's no excuse to abuse them. I have a 9 yr old beardie & yes, he's starting to show his age, but he's on newspaper (he tends to poop in his tank) as is another of my beardies, so that's easy to clean. He's also still Master of the Universe & lets everyone, even the furniture know this. He's very active, just likes to sleep in. Those dragons are in very poor condition & he should be punished somehow for being so ignorant. The beardie with the tumour should be to a vet asap, if it's benign, it can be removed. I can't belive this guy & for someone who's keeping all the other reptiles in good shape, he sure is ignorant about those beardies. I'm hoping you get someone else's attention & get those beardies rescued, at least to the vet. If I lived in your area I would have to make a stink, I wouldn't be able to stop myself. You've done a great deal & I understand your position, don't want you to get kicked out for raising a stink over those beardies. I really wish someone would just remove them & give them the attention they so desperately need. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, I hope the treatments work. Tell him good luck.

Thanks for keeping us all updated, we're all anxious to get them out of there & get them the treatment they need. Why would they want beardies that are sick anyway? It's just cruel what this guy is doing.

Hi,
.....if he thinks that poor little beardie has a tumor on it's mouth, has this guy diagnosed it himself or has that little one been seen by a vet for treatment options? Was leaving that poor little beardie in nasty unsanitary sand with a tumor causing excessive saliva a medical option? Was surgery an option but just not funded?

.....If he thinks the eye issue is from excessive saliva caking sand to the eye, why hasn't this been addressed and the sand removed? Have the eyes even been checked by a vet?

.....if he knows that poor little skinny one has lost weight because it hasn't been eating much "lately" did he even plan on getting a fecal and having it seen by a vet? Is he planning on assist feeding it or did he plan on letting it starve to death just because he thinks it's old? He apparently had students working with him, someone could syringe feed it!.....and how does he know that little one doesn't have MBD? Also, that skinny one hasn't been eating well for much longer than just " lately"...it's emaciation when you can plainly see the condyles at the knees.... {the round prominence at the end of a bone}

Neglect is neglect! Regardless of whose doing it, even a Bio-lab teacher or assistant...or whatever he is, it's wrong and he should be called out! Those poor little beardies require and deserve medical care and good husbandry now regardless of age.

No Excuses....
Amanda

Sorry if I've offended anyone...I have rescues who are in the condition they are because of people like this guy!

Alright, everyones confirmed what I was already thinking so I guess its time to contact the department. I have their information and plan to just be straightforward in the email (I could do it face to face but that wouldn't be until monday). I alctually "decided" that he doesn't have MBD, he doesn't have any symptoms as far as I can tell but the vet with be able to tell reguardless.

As for the tumor I don't have any more information so I'm sorry about that, ill mention that specifically when I talk to the head of the biology department. Ill do the missing phone or notebook thing and see how they're doing Monday. If the door isn't locked ill just give them both a bath myself, is there anything I could put in it that would be better then just plain water?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
