So, i just got my bearded dragon yesterday. I turned on his light before i went to school today, and when i came home he was on his basking rock. I dusted some crickets (about 4) and put them in his tank. My boyfriend has a bearded dragon, and his goes right after his food. But Reptar didn't even seem to notice them. After a little while i thought he had noticed them, but he was really just running into the side of the tank (he either thinks there is another beardy in the slight reflection, or he doesn't realize the glass is there :/) but anywhoo.. the crickets are in there still because i'm not sure exactly how to take them out... but i will get them out by tonight... And Reptar is laying flat on his cage carpet.. He went to the bathroom moments ago, and to me it looked healthy... so i guess he's not compacted.. My guess is he's adjusting to his new home.. Any other ideas?

Hello Lauren and welcome to the site.

Beardies go thru a period of relocation stress that last days up to about 2 weeks.
This is normal until they get acquainted with the new surroundings.

But just to make sure that's what it is...could you answer a few questions please?
____________________________________________________________________

How old is your dragon?

How long is your dragon?

What size enclosure do you have your dragon in?

What type substrate do you have on the bottom of your tank?

Do you use UVB lights?

If so, Is it a coil, compact, fluorescent tube, or Mercury Vapor bulb?

What is the brand name and number of your bulb? Wattage (if MVB)?

How old is your UVB bulb?

How close can your dragon get to the UVB?

Do you use a separate basking bulb? What kind and what is the wattage?

What are the basking temps?

What is the cool side temp?

Do you take the temps with a stick on thermometer, a digital thermometer with a wire and a probe end or a temp gun?

Where exactly are you taking your basking temps?

When he pooped what was the color and consisitency of the whitish portion (the urate)?
Was it bright white or more of a yellow?
Was it gooey, firm, or hard?

Has your beardie drank any water since you got him? Or have you bathed him?

40 gallon long/breeder

yes, repti-sun 10.0

If so, Is it a coil, compact, fluorescent tube, or Mercury Vapor bulb?
i guess it's a flourescent tube

What is the brand name and number of your bulb? Wattage (if MVB)?
repti-sun 10.0

How old is your UVB bulb?
just got it

How close can your dragon get to the UVB?
close enough i believe, its ontop of hte screen lid, but he can climb closer to it..

Do you use a separate basking bulb? What kind and what is the wattage?

one thats on the tank wall, idk what kind, its like a circle (zoomed)

Where exactly are you taking your basking temps?

When he pooped what was the color and consisitency of the whitish portion (the urate)?

Has your beardie drank any water since you got him? Or have you bathed him?

Should be 6" to 8" from highest spot he can get.

Your temps are not accurate let me explain....with the stick-on dials or tape strips you can not get a basking temp...because you need to take the temp directly on the basking spot. What is highly suggested is that you use a digital probe thermometer(with the probe attached to the basking spot) or an instantanious infrared temp gun. These thermometers are more accurate and you can actually get the basking temp(temps are highly important for beardies to be healthy and thrive). The digital probe thermometer can be purchased at Walmart for like $12 I believe it is called an Acurite(?). The type like you have now have been known to be up to 20* off in the reading it gives you. If your dial is on your basking end and is reading 105* to 110* on the wall then your basking spot if the dial is correct is way to high.

Dehydration can take over a baby real fast especially if they are not eating alot like during relocation stress. It's great that his drinking water from your finger but he may need more right now than just a few drops. I suggest using a small plastic tub or container even the kitchen sink, place a wash cloth in the bottom will help your beardie to feel more secure, fill with luke warm water up to your babies arm pits and let him soak for several minutes each day(they will soak in the moisture they need thru their vent) at least until he begins to eat his veggies. If the urate was firm thats a sign he's headed toward be dehydrated.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
