no i never contacted her, i figured she was just a goof ball, but the past week or so ive been messing with her alot more to see if i could get her to run around with the other girls, but no luck she just sits there. i dont want to piss anyone off, i was just concerned when i saw what you wrote, i will be bringing her to a specialist to see if it its genetic though. i was really hoping to breed her with my pastel is y i bought her but if not she just be a loved pet.

It really upsets me to hear that you've lost interest in your beardie. I can't imagine ever feeling like that. As mine have gotten older, they have become less active, as I would expect really. But they are part of my family. When you take on the responsibility of a pet, it should be for life, regardless if they become mentally or physically impaired. I believe the more love you give an animal the more it reveals its personality to you. Just my two cents.

You have to realize to that not everyone wants a "special" needs animal especially when that is not what was sold to them in the first place. Its not cold hearted its dissapointment. Relatively the same idea as when a bunch of breeders got caught a few years ago purposely staining their animals with calci sand. How would you feel, you pay 200+ dollars for this unbelievably red animal and once it sheds you find out it is grey/brown. Would you be dissapointed or would you be happy? I doubt you would be happy with that outcome. Gail purchased/was given (not sure which way) a supposedly healthy happy dragon. Turned out that he is far from that. She has every right to be unhappy with this outcome and not want the burden of having it.

He's gorgeous, but I can understand where you're coming from. If you're unhappy with him, then I would find a way to make you happy if I was you. Whether it be rehome him and get out of dragons, or rehome him and get a feisty dragon. Do what makes you happy, and is in the best interest of the dragon.

I wouldn't say Basti is unhealthy, he eats well and is big, of course who knows what is going on inside his body. I got him when he was 3 months old and even then he was inactive but I just thought he was really mellow. I'm really interested in what you friend has to say about hypos and if they know any specific bloodlines that have issues.

I really don't understand people who get upset when a pet owner realizes they don't like a certain pet anymore. Would you rather he stay here with me where he gets very little attention anymore or go to a better home where someone will like his personality which is basically a rock with eyes.

I'm still uncertain if I will try to rehome him or not. The last time I tried to find a foster a home on the boards, the only people who were interested were hoarders or people looking for a freebie.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Gail's feelings. Just because she initially took on the responsibility in no way forces her to love that dragon. It's a dragon and a pet [words removed by request of another member]. It isnt her kid that she gave birth to. It's not even a kid she adopted. It is a reptile.

Sometimes i regret having so many(6) usually when im wore out or have several having issues at once. Bathing ,feeding, making sure everyone gets their roam time everyday. Females laying eggs and everything that goes with that. I love everyone of them to death. I wouldnt trade any of them for the world. I love our special ones they have shown me to never give up and keep on going. I chose to get the 2 special ones that we have they are what i wanted. But i can also see gails point too. I dont really think theres a right or wrong here. Its all in the best interest of the beardie i think.

Chimaira is Ambers she will go with her when she moves out and Bobble is Cheri's and will go with her. They care for them all on their own. I dont have to do anything with those two unless i want to. Roo and Kinno are mine and Lexia and Zorina are my hubbys. So i take care of those four.

If i have the proper set up and feel i can handle another id take one in. I fostered 2 adult males for a forum member for 6 months in till she got settled i payed for everything out of my own pocket. Treated them like my own.

I dont think im a horder or am i?

Thanks for all the support, it makes me feel much better. I do still care about Basti and I would never dump him on a stranger just to get rid of him. What ever I decide to do, it won't be until later this year, I'm hoping some of his Blah is from the winter weather. I
do have a extra tank and accessories, maybe I could get a second dragon and just let Basti hang out here, maybe another dragon would get him interested in something.

No, Freeie, you are not a horder. I generally think of a horder as someone who has a compulsion to collect many, many animals then is unable to properly care for them.

Gail that might work getting a second one. If Kinno cant see another beardie all he does is sit in his viv bask and eat and bask. My hubby always says he has some kind of mental issue or something. I couldnt imagine just having him for a pet. Id prob feel the same way you are with Basti. Thats why we have Kinno housed on the bottom of the triple decker. So he can see the others when they roam.

i'm sorry you are having doubts about your dragon... as some have posted some folks are ready to care for a "special needs" beardie... maybe finding him a new home would be best for both of you, espeicall if your not happy wit him.. if you arent happy with an animal then most of the time people will do the bare min of care for that animal... not implying you would do that..... maybe you could find someone to "trade" beardies with and see if you still want to stay in the beardie business or let it go, its not for everyone...
as for me, i have no regrets about my baby... but i hope i've helped you in some way... good luck... let us knw hwat you decide

you should put a mirror in there for a day or so when you are home. See what kind of reaction you get out of him. Of course it goes without saying, so I am saying it, be sure to take it out if he gets too worked up/stressed over it.

I've tried mirrors, he could care less. He doesn't interact with his environment in any way.

i hope that some of the information that we have discussed will help your dragon and help you with your decisions. And no matter what people on here may think of this thread you are right in your concerns. Good luck.

Best of luck with Basti!
I'd imagine whatever you decide Gail will not be easy...but only you know what is best for you and him.
But let me tell you the only 1 of my pet beardies that I've ever gotten rid of/sold...I spent a year feeling bad and guilty about doing it until finally I brought her back home.
I had no idea it would make me feel so miserable I felt like I'd let her down. However if she would have been getting taken care of it may have been another story.

Again best wishes and hope you don't struggle to much with your decision.

as i said earlier i have a half sibiling to basti and she acts the exact same way, and if i didnt have 10 other dragons i would be feeling just like gail. i do think it has something to do with their breeding cause they have the same issues, they are to bumps on a log but mine does sorta interact with the other girls SOMETIME. if i was in gail shoes i would be having the same feelings. but i think im a bit more upset cause i bought her to breed she had beautiful color but dont think i will cause i think there is mental issues here/

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
