Hi there, I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in....I ended up with a male and a female....yes I was one of those people that didn't do my homework....I housed these 2 together from the time they were 6 weeks old. I did ask questions and I did get alot of differant answers......I was told they would not breed till they were 2 well to my surprise my female was getting pretty fat and she was only a year. Yes they did the deed and now she was PG. I wanted to do the right thing and I informed myself as much as I could about these little critters. I tried to remove her when she started digging....she would stop.....I would put her back in and she would then begin again. I put her lay box in her tank with the male still in with her!!! She laid with in half an hour and the male stood guard over her and would not let me in there until she was done! So she did lay 5 more clutches after that and yes I managed to give them all homes..lol...her largest clutch was 32! After that I gave her, her own home so that she could get back to herself. Since I separated them I can not put them back together again. He stresses her out to much and bullies her. I have another female I have tried to breed with him but she is very dominating and he is scared of her. She will not mate and that is ok. So I guess what I am trying to say is research for your answers and don't believe everything someone tells you. What might work for one may not work for you. You have to be the judge and if you try something and it doesn't work try something else.
I wish you all the best of luck but please research because once she startes laying its a long time commitment from you to take care of those eggs.
