Hi all...
This morning when I came over to my beardie tank, I discovered a mess all over the floor of it, couldn't tell if it was vomit or poop. It was really runny, appearing to be mostly water with some half-digested greens and mango in it.
We have 2 housed together, male and female (14 months and 11-ish months old respectively). I'm pretty sure the mess came from the male, who has had a history of runny poo. We've had him looked at by the vet twice in the last year, and each time the vet told us he was ok. His poop tested positive for a slight trace of protozoa (a bacteria) when we took him in about 3 months ago and the vet told us that this was probably not a problem and not to worry about it unless we experienced more problems.
Their diet consists of a mix of collared, mustard, and turnip greens as a staple with added cut fresh fruit about 4 times per week (mango and seedless kiwi primarily). We feed them each about 15 dusted crickets 5 to 6 times per week with the occasional tomato worm or meal worm thrown in. Neither has shown significant feeding problems...
We are currently trying to give them a "winter" light cycle; light comes on at 7am and goes off at 5:30 to 6pm. The temp in their basking spot reads 92.6 right now and rising (it's still early in the day). We have them in a large tank, 18'' x 20" x 48" (forget what gallonage that is) with 2 100 watt bulbs in spot lamps, a ceramic heat emitter, and a strip UV light over them. No undertank heating at the moment. We use a newspaper substrate. They have some stuff to climb on in both the cool and warm ends of the tank and the male spends about half his day crowding up toward top of the basking spot and half relaxing at the cool end. We recently added a mid-sized bathing pool at the cool end since both seem very thirsty on bath day. We give them 5 to 10 minute baths once per week. The male has hated misting since the day we brought him home and still runs from it when we try it with him, so we avoid this practice.
Sorry for the long post! Does anyone have any advice?
