Well, I have both :)

So here's my pro's a cons:

CAT PROS: Affectionate, lots of personality, great companion, will cuddle on the sofa, takes up less space in that they don't need a viv.

BEARDIE PROS: Lots of personality, easy to care for, they don't shed fur, will cuddle up on the sofa, lol, great talking point amongst visitors.

CAR CONS: Hard work, expensive vet bills if your cat fights, gets hit by a car, cuts his paw etc, litter training!

BEARDIE CONS: Takes up space, expensive to set up, can drain electricity, eats insects (if you dont like insects this could be a con)

Thats my 2 cents :D

Orrrrr just persuade your friend to get BOTH! :D

"Affectionate, lots of personality, great companion..."

Wow, I didn't know it was possible. That's the first time I've ever seen that said about a cat.

People are allergic to cats. People who say they are allergic to beardies are lying.
Cat's bite and scratch far more than beardies do.

Even if a beardie bit or scratched it would still never come anywhere close to the damage a cat could do. There's no avoiding those evil claws when owning a cat. When they play they'll scratch you and when they're pissed oh man do they SCRATCH you! When they're scared they may jump to you for protection but guess what? They'll dig those claws into you and hang on for dear life! ...and then scratch you some more.

well my opinion is, if your friend cant make up her mind about a cat or a beardie, then she doesnt deserve to get a beardie. Like come on is there really any question here?

I have a cat..and two beardies.

I would say my CAT is much easier than the dragons. My cat eats ONE kind of food..and I buy it once a month. His food NEVER "gets loose" and I don't need to "feed his food". Also My cat is not a biter/scratcher/or any other type of mean..lol...he's all LOVE! My two year old had ahold of him today (2 yr old got in trouble) and Diesel (my cat) gave him a dirty look and went in my room away from the 2 yr old.

I am MUCH more leary about my kids handling the dragons...because I'm afraid they could accidentaly hurt them. Where as my cat..not so worried..he's 20 lbs and not an ounce overweight...lol.

Also it seems with my dragons I am always wondering if they are doin ok...should I have their poop checked...are they growing well...why are they doing this or that. Their supplies are ALOT more expensive.

Diesel on the other hand...his costs involved are minimal. He gets a vet check every year and his shots wich is usually around $100. (and the one time he had a vet visit for a fight..ugh..he got bit by another cat when he snuck out...that was costly..drain tube..flushing..etc. but I don't forsee that ever happening again...my vet taught me how to get him to NOT want to get out!) Food costs about $14/month. He sleeps in my bed and his "house" is my house..lol..he doesn't need a special enclosure.

SO..While I think beardies are AWESOME...your friend should DEFINATELY know what kind of HUGE COMMITMENT she/he is getting into BEFORE buying a beardie.

A friend of mine was going to buy a beardie because she thought mine were so cool....I talked her out of it. She has too much "on her plate" right now..and I know I would end up taking care of her beardie...

As much as I HATE cats, I would never recommend a beardie to anyone who hasn't spent enough time around one to completely understand what kind of a pet they are. Most people are simply not geared to provide all the care a dragon needs and the financial end of keeping one can be a strain, especially for a baby.
Does your friend really, really want a dragon? Can she afford it? Does she have any issues with bugs or poo? Don't push a pet on her she might not be ready for just because you like them , this is a animal she has to live with, not you.

I do have to admit that I don't like it when someone decides to get a pet but are unsure what kind. It always make me question the motive behind getting the pet.

To be completely honest...I love my beardies...but had I done my research and fully known how much it was going to cost to take caer of them..and how much time involved in caring for them...I would NOT have gotten a beardie. I still don't know what I'm going to do when we go away on vacation next summer?!?!

When I went away last summer I only had a cat...we left a nice clean litter box, 3 big bowls of food and water and he was all set...bored probably but he was good.

WHAT DO I DO WITH A DRAGON WHILE IM AWAY!? hmmm..gonna start a new thread on that!

She has spent alot time around me and my beardies, and she will always come to me if she has trouble.
when she comes over its straight to the `lizzard section` in the house.
She does have the money to afford bugs , viv and what not. so that wont be a problem.
She knows i have a lot of my commitment to them , as im home eveyday at 5 to feed them,
I also dont particully like cats ¬_¬ i personally dont think she do much and beardies have much more of a personality as for the reason for this argument, she is willing to get a beardie . her quote was ` i want a cat for the cuddles` she obvoisly dosent no that much about beardies lol!
thanks for all your replys

Ok here's my 2 cents.. I have both. (As well as 4 dogs, 4 birds, assorted snakes, etc. etc. lol)

IF you get a sweet cat, you will have a great snuggle buddy, a rewarding companion, and an amusing clown. However, there is always the chance of getting a not-so-people-oriented cat. I hear far too many "yeah we have a cat.. he does his thing" stories of people who really don't share more than a house & paycheck w/their cat. The worst part about that, is those folks usually get ANOTHER cat to keep the first one company since it doesn't appreciate human company. Ugh. A beardie really has no choice but to rely on their person. That means 2 things - 1) they usually are affectionate and appreciative of their care & 2) the owner REALLY has to be ready to cater to them. So.. assuming this person has the means and gumption to care for either pet in the appropriate manner, she really has to consider what type of relationship she wants with her pet. She should also be certain to do her homework regarding either animal and TEST FOR TEMPERAMENT if deciding to adopt a cat. Let's face it - a grouchy beardie is handleable. A nasty cat can be a downright nightmare.

I'm sure there's more I could say but that's what immediately jumped to mind. :p

P.S. I have the sweetest 2 kittycats ever & the world's best beardie, so I guess I just lucked out! :)

Also keep in mind that not all beardies are "snuggly", in reality I've never met one and I've been around dozens of dragons over the last few years. Sure they will let you hold them and hug them but it is very different the the "snuggles" you get from a hairy pet.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
