Earlier this year I aquired three bearded dragons. One was Tango who was in perfect health while buying a vivarium on Ebay. (The seller asked what the viv was for and when I said it was for a beardie asked if I wanted one for free but I digress. At the same time I rescued two older beardies, both about 18 months, one male, one female. Both were seriously underweight and the female was also stressed as the male wanted to breed all the time.
Well, they came to me nd I started trying to nurse them bck to health naming the boy Norbert and the girl Pearl. Within days I had fallen head over heels in love with them and developed a particular soft spot for my beautiful Pearl. Sadly however she never recovered. It came down in the end to me having to force feed her critical care formula which I hated doing and I am sure she hated even more. I think she was just too far gone really as on June the 6th this year when I came home from shopping I found my beautiful baby girl dead in her food bowl. It looked like she had made a final attempt to eat something and it broke my heart. She is buried in the back garden now and I am going to plant something pretty over her. I just wish I had had longer with her....she only lasted about a month and I will never for as long as I live, forget her. Welling up a little actually just typing this, it really is amazing how quickly a beardie can make you fall in love with it.
On a happier note though, norbert is thriving. He has put on weight and I can no longer see his hip bones or ribs and Tango is turning into a little scrapper now he has hit puberty. Both love their food and cuddles and I hope it will be many many more years before I have to post an RIP for either of them.
