Okay, so my male decided to come out of brumation today. How long do you guys allow them to get back to themselves before handling them again? Hermes was sort of out of it and fidgeted a lot when I picked him up so I wasn't sure if he needed some time to adjust now that he's awake. I did give him a quick bath though just so he could hydrate, but I put him back in his viv immediately after. I was just curious to what everyone else did shortly after a sleepy dragon wakes.

Also, if a female has been spayed and she had eggs in her, how long would it take before her desire to lay eggs diminishes and she begins to eat and behave as normal?

Hello,

I am sorry your post got missed!
Normally there isn't any time needed for adjusting when they come out of brumation. He may need a week or so before eating much as his system has been slown down for awhile.
Hydration is important so you can give him a bath every other day & give oral fluids too. Has he been basking normally?
If your female was spayed they should have removed all of the eggs. She may still have an instinctual behavior to lay possibly but her hormones will be greatly diminished.

Yes, he has! He's been laying on or near his usual basking log. The only thing he has not been doing is eating his greens. Live feeders get devoured pretty quickly but he's snubbing his bowl of veggies.

Yes she did have eggs (in various stages including some in decay) inside her due to negligent former owners. So they were definitely removed. I just was curious how long it might take for those hormones to stop pumping through her. So its been about two weeks now since that surgery and she's starting to eat more food. I came home yesterday and she finally ate her greens. She was still acting like she wanted to dig and lay though that first week.

Thank you for the response!

Hello,

That is a start, if he is basking normally then. Eventually he will start eating his greens, also, but it may take a little more time. He will probably want insects primarily.
Oh poor girl, at least the eggs are out of her now. She should feel a lot better too.
There isn't really any time table for a decrease in hormones, but this late in the year her hormones should be slowly decreasing right now. It still may be an instinctual thing for her to want to dig, even if she doesn't have eggs. She will still have some hormone levels, but obviously she wont release any follicles.
At least she is eating her greens, too. I hope she makes a full recovery from her surgery.
Do you have any pictures of her?

Yeah he's definitely more interested in live food than veggies right now. He did eat some yesterday, not a full dish like he usually does. Some days I wish I had cameras hooked up so I can monitor them while I'm at work. I hate not knowing what they do during the day. Usually when I get home, he's crashed along side his basking log and napping. :dontknow:

She's more mobile than she was when I first got her. I can't imagine how miserable she must have been with those eggs in her. Her former owner thought she was a boy, had no idea how to properly care for her either. Anyway, her body weight dropped significantly after her surgery and she's thinner.

Yes, I do have pictures of her! You can see them in the rescue thread I made. :) viewtopic.php?f=3&t=198392

Hello,

I will go check out your pictures in the other thread. :D
How are things going now is he doing well? Is he eating his greens anymore now or not yet?
How is she doing now? I hope her appetite has picked up & that she is basking & recovering for you.

Thanks for the update.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
