Questions about bathing

We use the tub for their baths and put a hand towel down so they have something to stand on that's not slippery, as far as his substrate, try using non adhesive shelf liner, we found that it's easy for clean up and not having to replace paper towels all day. Good luck with your new family member, can't wait for pics. Lisa

Thanks you! I like the idea of putting a cloth down so they aren't sliding everywhere. Today is the day I bring him home!! So excited!!

Yeah little Winston is here!! He's doing really well except I think he has relocation stress. He's pooping but not eating. I didn't take him out yesterday and today so hopefully get him more comfortable being here. We also made him a hammock out of a bandana and some suction cups. He LOVES it!! hasn't left it since we made it! Plus I put it high enough up so he can be about 7" from the UVB light. I did get the tube light and I'm glad I did! Also today I saw him head bob once or twice. So cute!

I haven't set up Internet yet in my new house yet and I don't think I can post pictures from my phone. But as soon as we get connected I will be posting pics!!

Also, any suggestions on him not eating? I've tried putting a few crickets in a tub in his viv and he just climbs out. I've tried dangling them close to his mouth. And I've tried to feed him in a big Pyrex and put a contrasting color than the crickets so he could see them better but still nothing.

my babies didn't care for the crickets... they prefer the dubias roaches... and they come in many different sizes... i think they are easier than crickets... I know, I was freaked out at first when my husband even mentioned the idea of having roaches in the house... but I quickly got over that when I saw how my "guys" eat them up. They don't jump, they don't climb up the side of the tub we keep them in, they don't smell... and there is no noise from them unlike the crickets. He probably is still adjusting to the move, as long as he is pooping, make sure he has a decent urate...he'll eat when he's ready. I started putting a salad in for my guys right from the beginning. Also, on the cricket front, I have heard of people removing the legs off of them so they can't jump around and get away from the young beardies. Don't forget you'll need to give him a bath so he can get hydrated. Good luck, can't wait to see pics of him.

My Baby Birdie ate her salad the same day she was home...not much but she did eat it. All 3 ate crickets but i use to break off the legs and they were powdered with calci so the white really stood out. I added phoenix worms (in a covered dish-no smell no feeding) they really enjoyed those, although the dish I placed them in they could wiggle out..sooo higher dish or watch closely to avoid escapees. I recently purchased on line repti worms and they are not eating them as well as the phoenix...which is weird cuz they are suppose to be the same thing.
I have one beardie that loves bath time and just sits their soaking but I have to hold her head up or else she would just let it sink. Both Baby Birdie and Puppy dislike the bath but well they have to cuz their mommy says they have to...Puppy will inflate his belly so much that he floats like an inflatable pool toy. Birdie just scrambles the whole time. She was a bit older when I got her and she is not big on being held either. And she is very fast so I have to be super careful as I have 3 cats that would love for her to escape

I am building up myself to order and care for the dubais (?sp) ...found someone that will sell for a really great price all different age ranges so that I can start my own colony. but ewwwwww

All great ideas! He still haven't eaten. The calcium powder makes the crickets look the same as the paper towel substrate I'm using. The tub I put him in is clear and I put that inside his viv So that didn't work. I'm going to try the Dubia I think. I know hr was eating crickets very well before I got him so I want to see him eat a few before I buy more bugs to keep in my house ha! I have bathed him 3 times since I got him on Friday and he seems to like it. At first he scurries to the edge like he wants out but when he gets there he just chills. I trip water on his nose till he drinks some and that seems to be working well. He's a happy little guy just not eating.

When I got home last night my boyfriend had left the heater on high in the living room (our house had separate heating units for each room) which is where Winston is. My boyfriend fell asleep and it was only about 15 minutes before I saw poor little Winston was all the way on the cool side class dancing. So I took him out to cool him and his viv down. But when I took him out he was so curious! Climbing and jumping around. I put a couple towels out so he could have stuff to climb on but he kept wanting to jump onto my pangs and climb up my shirt. (I was sitting) and when I put him back in his vib after it was cooled down he climbed up my sleeve onto my shoulder. It was so funny.

Sorry about all the spelling and grammar mistakes. I'm on my phone and apparently it doesn't auto correct when I'm typing on the forum... Weird

No worries... Sounds like he is settling in nicely, hopefully he will start to eat soon. We just got our 3 "babies" the end of September. It's amazing how much you worry about them... didn't realize when we got them how enthralled I would be with them. You could also try phoenix worms if he's still not eating. Can't wait to see pics of him... what color is he?

Yeah I'll try those definitely. He's got some orange on his head under his ears and some on his back. I think when he gets big his colors are gonna be awesome! He's already Got so many colors.

It is crazy how mesmerized and concerned we are. I knew we would be because we had a corn snake and we were the same way with her. Always checking on what she was doing. Our Corn snake, Nigini, actually passed away on Thursday (day before we got Winston) the vet said it was some kind of kidney developmental problem from when she was hatching. But there was no way of knowing. :( it was very sad but also strange how it was the night before we got our little beardie. The vet said it wasn't any parasite or anything that could be passed to Winston. But we still went though sanitizing everything!

Thank you. Winston definitely makes the house seem less empty. We've decided if we (mostly just me since I'm the girl) feel sad about Nigini we will make something for Winston and give him a cool little living space. So far we've made the hammock and got him a corner climby thing.

If you want some great structures that are custom made you should talk to kjinxx2 at the rock shop, if you give him dimensions and an Idea of what you want, he can custom make a rock platform for you. He's making 3 different ones for me right now..and has been a pleasure to deal with.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
