so about an hour ago I saw a post mentioning turkistans and had to know more about what they are :) well now after placing an order for 2k dubia and going and getting two more bins so I can start a dubia colony I'm interested in the turkistans. so I was hoping those of you that currently have or have had colonies of each type could point out the major differences between them that you've noticed; and post which you like more and why.
I see that it seems turks are more temperamental about temps and it sounds like they eat more based on some of the posts I read, but other than that I don't see many differences.
thanks guys!

I haven't had experiences from both. I only have Turks. They unlike the dubia lay egg cases. A mature female turk can lay 1 egg case every 1 - 2 weeks. Each egg case has 20-30 roaches in them. Because of this, the turks reproduce allot faster then the dubias do. I have my bin at a temp of 80-90° and a humidity of ~40-50%. I haven't had experience to compare but, feeding them will not be too big of a deal. Some healthy dog treats (bad for about 5$) should last me about 3-6 months at least. The water crystals on the other hand seem to be gone in 1-2 days depending on if there has been some salad provided. It is best to provide a fresh salad 1-2 times a week.

Biggest perk I have learned about turks is that the egg cases can be transferred to a different bin so when they hatch there isn't any picking them out of the adults. This will make it easier to feed my younger dragon.

I really like the idea of having the egg cases vs. the live birth, the only downside I'm concerned about is them being too fast for her to catch

A ceramic feeder dish should help with this. They still may climb her arms or on her as she is eating but, one of my males who I have feed 2 of them to, until my colony develops further I am reluctant to feed more. He had a slight issue catching them at first but, he ended up getting and eating both of them.

after all the reading I've done I think I'll just have 6 bins in my basement full of roaches! I'll try both and see which ends up working out :) Just need to hope none ever escape. its one thing if I can grab them with tongs in a bin. its another if one runs under me when I'm half asleep walking through the house.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
