question about dubias

how long would it take to get a colony up and going? ive been looking online for pricing and such if i went with like 100-300 would that be enough? i was thinking of going with mixed sizes cuz hes kinda small now so the little ones would be good and once he gets older the bigger ones will work and can feed smaller ones as well..

this site here has a 100% over count going on so if i went will 150 roaches for 56 bucks id be getting around 300, is that a good deal? also has the option of adding adult pairs in for added price, would i need them to keep breeding or would the mixed assortment give me all i need?

dino is breaking my piggy bank, would order bulk of crickets but they are noisy and stink, plus hes a hit or miss eater on the crickets one day he will eat 30-50 and the next day may be lucky to eat 10.

For the time it would take to get a colony up and going it would depend on how many adult females you get.

I would advise getting the Dubia and then leaving them be including the nymphs for a couple months. Just bare with the cricket stink for a couple more months. That way you build up a larger colony before you start feeding off of it. I got my Dubia in February from The Roach Guy and I have left them alone except to add food and water once a day. I have seen many new baby nymphs

Females can produce on average of 15 to 30 nymphs. So say your little guy eats 40 a day that is 1200 nymphs a month. So you will probably want at least 60 adult female "that is 20 nymphs per female" before you start feeding off the nymphs. The usual recommendation is anywhere from 1 male for every 3 female up to 1 to 10 female. So you can feed off the extra male nymphs if you choose to just make sure to save some. Below helps sex nymphs if you were to feed the nymph males.

I don't know if it is still available but I know sunshine roaches had a awesome deal going 1000 for $150... that would sure get your colony going fast...

thank you for the info, i think im going to hold off on the roaches for a while, just realized or lease on our apartment is coming up in a few months and we will be looking for another place, might as well wait till we get moved, and im laid off from work right now hopefully getting called back here real soon, so will have to see on the money situation. really think i will go this route though, if i can spend like 200-250 bucks and not have to buy anymore feeders again then that would be very nice. wish there was some place locally that was into breeding these or someone in my area of illinois that would split cost of live feeders. for now i will have to stick with the crix, once again thank you.

buyroaches.com is located in Tinley Park, Il. Maybe that could be an option in the future.
