a friend of mine gave me his 2 full grown male beardies. they have been very well taken care of but the dominant one started puking tonight and was looking like he was having a seisure.. is he dieing? he is 8 years old or so. The only thing that has changed recently (besides the move) is that we gave them carrots. we shredded the hell out of them so he wouldnt choke. we are just really worried about him. does anyone know what could possably be happening?

Hello,

Are you housing them together?
Can you go over your tank setup with us? Such as what is your lighting like & do you have UVB lighting & a basking light? What type & brand of UVB light are you using?
What are you measuring the temps with? A stick on thermometer, a digital probe or a temp gun?
If he is undernourished & thin, you will need to proceed slowly with feeding for both of them. Start with fluids & mostly greens. He is probably dehydrated so don't feed him too much protein right now because his kidneys wont be able to handle too much protein.
What do his stools look like, does he have adequate urates & if so, what do they look like?
Does he have fatpads on the top of his head?
Maybe you can post some pics of them both for us.
As for puking or choking on the carrots, did they maybe stick to their throat a little bit?
Do you know if the previous owner used UVB & calcium for him?
Has he had anymore seizures thus far tonight?

they are housed together in a 150 gallon tank. i no there is both uvb lights and basking lights. but sorry as i cant remember all of the terminology. the settup we got with them was pretty insane. there are 2 large(biggest ive ever seen) lights that we have set up in the basking side, pretty sure they have uvb. there is also a smaller red colored one that stays on at night on the basking side(white ones turn off at night) and 2 other lights and i dont know if they have uvb or if they are just lights or what. we have 2 thermometers on the walls, one on each side. the baskin area is at 98 and the other side is around 74. he is in no way thin or malnurished. hes a little piggy. haha his stools are pretty much just shells of mealworms and crickets. i dont know what urates are or the fat pads. ill go get my camera and take a picture of them and put it up on here. as far as calcium goes, we didnt get any with them and the previous owner didnt say anything about giving them calcium but i hope he did. I dont know if he has done it again. right after he did it i went back to my parents house to look it up on the internet and i havnt been back there yet.

Hello,

I really do need the types of lights you are using, it makes a difference. Do you have a long flourescent tube type of light for the UVB, or a mercury vapor lamp that puts out heat & UVB? This information is important.
Also, though the 150 gallon is large, those 2 males are not going to get along. They could kill each other once they get 100% in health. Males get very aggressive towards each other. So, you will need to figure out some way to put a divider in the middle of it, halfing it between them which will be fine on the space. Then, you will need to have 2 separate setups one for each of them.
How are they doing today?
You have stick on type of thermometers that stick on the wall? You will need to get a digital probe or a temp gun, as the stick ons only really measure the ambient temps or the glass temperature. So your temps could be way off for them.
You don't really need a red light to stay on all night though, as that can disturb their sleep. If you need nighttime heating, you can use a ceramic heat emitter which gives off heat but no light.
The urates are the white portion of the stool, or their urine. If they are not excreting any of that then they are dehydrated. If it comes out hard or off colored, then they are dehydrated. The urates should be white to opaque, & soft, with sometimes a bit of off coloring to the edge. The fatpads are located on top of the head basically, on the base of the tail & under the armpits.
They will need to have calcium at least 3 times per week if they are adults.
You can post some pictures of them for us.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
