So, I have been trying to heat up the inside of my enclosure since my dragon likes it toasty (she won't eat if it's too cool and has been on a food strike recently). I bought another heat lamp and turned up the temps on the floor to get her to perk up. Last night I was washing a new basking log for her, one lower down so I could heat things up without cooking her.
I had the probe just laying on the bottom of the tank under the light. It got up to 107 degrees. the spot where she was laying was in the 80s. It's only a 40 Gal long, so she wasn't "that" far from the light. I was woundering if maybe the probe being black would give it a higher than accurate reading. I didn't change anything as far as the lights went and just put a paper towel over the probe, so the heated area was now white. The highest it got was 78 degrees. There is a pretty big difference between 107 and 78. These are just little digital ZooMed probes.
So, which reading is more accurate? The uncovered probe or the covered probe? It was the exact same probe, the only difference was the paper towel I put over it.
