Prepping for my beardie

Hi I'm wanting to get my home set up for my beardie so I don't hurt it I haven't ordered it yet I'm trying to set it up first but I can't get the temperature right I don't know if I need to lower the watts or raise the lamps(the lamps now are resting on the vivarium itself)

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad to see you're getting everything set up ahead of time. It will make a big difference for your new buddy. I'll be glad to help get everything configured so it's just right.

What equipment do you have in place so far? What is the size/dimensions of your enclosure?

To answer your question you can change the temperatures by using different wattage bulbs, raising/lowering the basking light (adjustable lamp stands are helpful), and some bulbs can be dimmed to fine tune the output (halogen flood lights in particular). I have mine hooked to a dimming thermostat which I find very helpful but it's a luxury item to an extent. Worth it if you have the budget but I wouldn't put it at the top of the list if resources are limited (UVB lighting is top).

I bought the zoo med 40 gallon starter kit from pet smart tossed the sand and use everything else I'm pretty sure that the wattage is the issue the one I have now is 100 watts also I have a little night heater that heats the tank to 90°+ I'm going to buy a 60 watt halogen tomorrow but I can't get the night heat right I can leave it off at night and the tank would sit at 70° but the monster would get to high

The coil compact uvb that came with it needs to be replaced too! Go with the long tube type like the Reptisun 10.0 t5 ho or the Arcadia 12%d3, these are the best options to supply proper uvb for your dragon. Those coil compacts have been known to cause eye irritation, eye infections and/or blindness.

Dimmer switch, but if your house doesn't drop below 65° you won't need to turn it on at all.
