PowerSun MVB?

Hey all,
My tank setup is a little awkward with the UVB hood I have, so Awkward that my basking lamp is pointed at a very odd direction being propped up oh so delicately and it keeps falling, making tank setup near impossible. I had a few questions about the 100W Powersun MVB
1. IS IT SAFE?! I see threads here with discussions about it but that was all the way back in 09, surely they are safe to use now??
2. If I have the powersun MVB, should I still have the Repti Sun 10.0 Stretching across the tank as well? Or is that a UVB overdose??
This just seems easier for me in my current situation. If it's not safe, I don't want to risk my Beardie's health!

I've been using Power Suns for 4 years, and I've never had a problem with them, but if you already have the Reptisun 10.0 then you don't need the Power Sun, as it is an overdose of UVB. So now just make sure the basking light has the right temps and you're all set. Hope this helps. Use one or the other, sounds like the Reptisun 10.0 fits just right.

Well, the issue with the repti sun was getting the UVB on his basking spot, the hood I have is really hard to work with. So I went and got the 100W Power Sun, it's 13" Away from his basking spot as instructed, and I added a second light to get the temps right on his basking spot, and I removed the ReptiSun. I still have it if I ever want another beardie or plan to help a friend set something up! Thanks!

The Power Sun is heat & UVB at the same time, so unless your temps are under 105F you don't need the basking light at all. How old is your beardie?

Overdose of UVB you say??
I have been using a 100W PowerSun as a Basking Light, and using a ReptiSun 10.0 24" for UVB, for the past few Month's and it seem's to have made my Beardie healthier and happier than with just the PowerSun and I have never seen an Ill sign's coming from him about it.

I pretty much know both Bulb's are producing 2 Different Wavelength's of UVB, and I think the Combination of the 2 Different wavelength's of UVB combining make it more "Realistic" to what the Sun produce's .

He eat's more, is more active/alert, color's went from awesome, to amazing, more "Friendly/Sociable . And I also dust his Insect feeder's 5x a Week, and I dust 5 - 10 of the 45 iLarge Cricket's/Super's a day.

So I just find this to be interesting and would like your opinion's and reasoning's.

You know, I've heard of others doing that too, so my mistake, if it's working for your dragon, go for it! I've never used both, as I have 5 dragons, too expensive, so kept on with just the Power Suns, but now that I really think about it, it would be more like sunshine having both. Anything that makes a dragon healthier is good, so I'll have to keep that in mind!

Haha yeah, I was thinking they couldn't over dose, because Test say with a ReptiSun 10.0 for 12 Hour's equal's just 30 Minute's of real Sun Shine, so both the PowerSun 100W and ReptiSun 10.0 should equal 1 Hour, maybe 2? I tried it out as a Test at First, but then I saw it was working way past my Expectation's, and I've just stick with it. Lol.

I didn't mean to sound Rude or like a Smart@$$ in that other post, I was just wondering if you knew some Info that I didn't. lol. xD

No but it makes perfect sense because I find that after my dragons have had a dose of sunshine in the summertime (I let them out one at a time on my balcony when it's sunny) they always have more energy. I wish I WAS richer, I'd do the same thing. And no, you weren't a smart*** at all, I love learning new things. I've been raising dragons for 6 years and I find the more people I talk to, the more I learn. All my dragons have been rescues, adopted and one fostered that I got to keep. I've lost a few over the years but have 5 healthy males, Didi is 6 yrs old, Leo is 5 yrs old, Rubio is 4 1/2 yrs old, Lonzo is my senior, he'll be 10 yrs old in April and my baby Gabriel is 2 years old. They were all in bad health when I found them, they're all good and healthy now, and I love them all dearly. Imagine, 5 dragons and 2 geckos in a 1 bedroom apartment, I can honestly say that I'm a reptile lady living in a Dragon's Den :lol:

How old is your beardie & what's his/her name? I'm just fascinated with them all, they're such lovable creatures and with such different personalities. I've always had cats, but when I came across my first dragon 6 years ago I just fell in love!

Haha Geeze, I wish i could have that many Reptile's, I just can't afford them right now. Lol. When I eventually get the Money I want to have a Reptile Room with 1 more Beardie and then have about 3 - 4 Different Gecko Specie's that I like, I've been Fasinated with tropical Gecko's since I was a kid "21 now" and any Gecko that can Climb Glass is like the Coolest thing ever to me. Lol. I had already bought my Powersun and was using it for 1 month, and 2 month's ago I went to a New Pet Shop that had just opened and I was helping them with price's and everything, and they gave me a ReptiSun for free, which I was stoked to get. But yeah, since then, I've been using the 2 together and it work's great!

My Beardies name is "Shenron" from the Cartoon "Dragonball Z", He is 3 month's & 6 day's old, 14 inches Long Head to Tail, a rescue from a pet Store, I got him about a week after he Hatched, maybe even 3 day's after he hatched. But he is a Beautiful Citrus/Orange with Purple side Bar's, I LOVE his Coloring! At least I think he is a male xD His Pore's are obvious but I'm like 60% sure about him being a male, if I had a good Camera I would post some pic's.

I'm 57 and I started with dragons in 2006 when my son & his now ex-wife got a baby beardie and needed a babysitter. Poor Sweetie was just skin and bones, she hadn't had a bug in a month, so I researched, found this site, got some great advice and 2 mo later she was 16" long and over 200g, she was only 4 mo old when we babysat her. So when the kids got home I told them I was keeping her (we'd already spent $200 on her for a new tank, UVB, etc) and to get a cat & that started us on the road to owning lots of beardies. All are rescued, Lonzo we adoped when he was 5 yrs old, and Didi was a foster who's owner moved to Japan and then realized that she couldn't get him over there & that there was nothing for dragons so I got to keep him and now I've lost track of his original owner. Gabriel, who's 2, is my latest dragon, I found him in the pet shop I go to, he'd been abandoned, he was covered in sand, skinny, dehydrated & when I picked him up, he hid in my coat. So I bought him the next day and took him straight to my vet, he had a huge load of parasites. He was 17" long and 280g, about 1 1/2 yrs old. So 3 mo later, he was eating tons of good food, parasites were gone, he was 18" long and 496g and full of mischief. He's still full of mischief and loves to snuggle into my neck & climb on my head. I love all my dragons and give them as much attention as I can.

I'm glad you got your little guy, it's hard to raise babies from such a young age, but you've done so well. I'm fascinated with geckos, too, having a golden and a crestie, but my first love is and always will be dragons. My favourite movie is "How to Train your Dragon" and I swear, my crew all think they can fly :lol: Maybe your little guy will grow big like my Rubio, he was 24g at 3 mo old when I found him at a pet shop, missing all the digits from his right front & most of them from his right back paws. But he's now 22" long with a tail nip and 826g. He's my favourite, but don't tell the others, he's just my very big boy!

Haha yeah, I have a Thread in the General Discussion, about how exactly I got him "Rescued or Stolen. Wrong or Right"...

But I want to have 1 Crestie, 1 Day Gecko, 1 Flying Gecko, 1 Crocodile Gecko and maybe 1 Mossy Leaf tail Gecko xD And I really really want a Nice Red or Orange Leather Back Beardie. Hypo, Trans, Leucistic, Het for Blah, none of that matter's to me. As long as I'm visually pleased with it, and I connect/like it's personality then I'll get it, but until then I try not to even look at Beardies for sale. Lmao

I wish I knew how much Shenron weighed, but I don't have a Accurate Digi Scale. But he is a Fat boy, he pig's out most day's, but every once in a while he'll get an attitude all day and will hardly eat, or he'll be picky about it. Lol. But I was expecting Shenron to be a Normal Colored Beardie when I first got him as baby, and I was fine and happy with that, but then every Shed these Color's just kept coming out and I was like Ahhhhhh I love it! haha xD

That's what happened with Rubio, he started out brick red and now he's an antique cold colour with blue side bars. He's supposed to be a citrus & I guess he is. The others are all different colours, Didi is bright orange/yellow. Lonzo started also brick yet, now he's yellow and black. Leo has a bright yellow head and the rest of him is a pretty diamond pattern, dark and light browns. When he's had a good swim in the bath, he turns all pastel colours, it's very different. Gabriel is brown, but when he gets really warm he turns yellow. So they're all different and your guy will get brighter as he gets older, it's quite amazing what happens after every shed.

Haha yeah, I can't wait to see Shenron when he's full grown! It's snowing outside at my house right now "Carrollton, Georgia" so I'm going to hold him up to the Window and let him watch it xD
I know how his Personality is, but sometime's I wonder if he is really thinking the way he is looking at me, like "Wtf, or what are you up too with his Head Cocked watching me" or just randomly staring at me, or his food and stuff. Lol. I wish I they could talk xD

So do I, I get bobbed at alot, having 5 adult males, they bob at anything & everything, just to let whatever know who's boss! It's very funny and I really wish I knew what was going through their heads. :lol: They must wonder what us big lizards are all about, feeding them, but not eating them, snuggling them, talking to them all the time :lol:
