potty training

Is it possible to potty train a beardie to go on a paper towel? I just got him some repti carpet and think its going to be hard to clean if he poopes on it. Ithink it would be nice if i could get him to go on a paper towel or something. How would i go about this if its possible?

I don't think this is possible, but maybe you could be the first to potty train a beardie. The closest that I have heard anyone coming to potty training is that there beardies poop when they are in the bath tub.

My 11yo daughter has trained her dragon Buddy to go on newspaper! I didn't think it could be done either, but she is a remarkable girl with our dragons. Buddy will not poop in his cage, only when he is taken out and placed on the paper. She somehow can tell when he needs out to do his business, and then she folds up the paper and puts it in the trash. I have to say I hope she can train the other 6 dragons how to do that, but Buddy is in her room with her and they are "TIGHT" she says.

That is awesome! I never would have thought it would be possible. Congrats to your daughter for being able to do that.

Wow I wish my beardies where that potty trained, the only thing my beardies will do is climb off me and go to a corner when they "gotta go".

I lay dog pads down on the ground and when my girl's out, she'll go on them. If she's in her cage, she'll go on the paper towel in the middle of the tank. She also has the habit of covering it up so she doesn't touch it.

I also remember telling her if she doesn't go potty, she doesn't come out until she does her business or if she's wanting to run around until she does. She listens and now does her business inside her cage. Sometimes, she basks for an hour before deciding to come out and go play. I make sure she gets exercise and runs around my room. I listen for her when she moves. I can hear her on the floor because her claws make noises on a linoleum floor when she runs around while she explores.

If you bathe them consistently, they will learn to go in their tub time. Our girls will also "signal" when they need to go, by either turning dark , or glass dancing and black bearding...If you pay attention and are around alot, they will learn to communicate. That said, sometimes there are accidents, when we're at work too long, but for the most part it's only in the tub, and I swear it we tell them we're going to be home late, they listen and wait!

my one guy hasn't gone in his tank in ages - he's a bath time pottier - so in that sense they are "trainable" - but wow on the 11 year old - she's a dragon whisperer She's in tune with her dragon's behavior for sure!!

I figure you can train a dog or a cat but a dragon? That's cool.

She is a special girl for sure! And Buddy is one laid back dragon, until he hears or sees her then he lights up. I have to say that they do love each other, and he trust her more than what I would expect. At the same time she has recieved 2 female mice that had never been held or even been around people and now they set on her shoulder and wake up when she talks to them! In fact our Vet wants her to intern this summer (with her mother or I there, no pay of cource). Thanks for the nice words for her. I'll keep you up to date on her next works of art with dragons.
