possibly sick beardie

Hello! We got a juvenile beardie two weeks ago, and we're concerned about his health. While he is in his cage he is a very dark color of brown, and doesn't move for anything, not even food. We are unsure if he is drinking too. However, when we take him out to handle him, he turns a yellow color within 30 minutes and is a bit more perky. He still sleeps while we have him out, but will try to explore a little bit. My girlfriend can get him to eat while she holds him sometimes, but other times he just won't. He's having normal bowl movements as far as we can tell. We have never owned any reptiles before and are worried that he could be sick or generally unhappy with his cage. Any advice is greatly appreciated

It's good that he's more alert out of his tank but not even going after food is a concern. There is possibly an issue with the setup, likely heat/lighting, that may have him not feeling well. That is quite an important piece to get just right. Can you provide more info abut the temps in the tank and the type of lighting you're using? Photos would be helpful as well.
