Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help.
I noticed a small patch of grey on my lovely Bugs shoulder over a month ago and presumed he was going to start a shed. Since then another patch has appeared on his other shoulder and no sign of shed. He has shed his Head and feet in the mean time. When he's dark a few patches seem to stay yellow. And a single scale fell of his first grey patch today. It doesn't seem like shed to me :s. I'm having difficulties taking a decent picture on this phone but what are your thoughts?
Should I do a preemptive treatment of antifungal?
Thank you!

Hi Lucy....it would really be helpful to post a few pics. Here's how:
https://www.beardeddragon.org/useruploads/
Then hit XIMG

Or upload them to a site like photobucket, tinypic and copy/paste the img/url here.

If it really looks like Y.F., you'll need a reptile vet that has experience with beardies and hopefully has knowledge about treating Y.F.
Some inexperienced vets prescribe antibiotics, but they won't help. The oral med. most prescribed is Voriconazole. Applying antifungal cream may help and it won't hurt. I hope your baby will be O.K !

It's quite hard to see in pictures, it looks a bit like his markings but it isn't.

Btw his appetite and behavior are great, he is about a year old, 510g.

Just read an old post about someone else's struggle with yellow fungus, had me blubbing like a baby! :'(

I have a vet I trust but I don't get paid for a week, I feel really bad for not having money put by but I swapped jobs and my savings went whilst I waited to get paid.

I have been hearing about betanine is it? It doesn't sound familiar, can you get it in England?

Thanks in advance,
Lucy and Bug.

P.S. All the pictures of yellow fungus I see seem to be in the later stages, if anyone could link some pictures of it in the early stages I would really grateful.

Nothing there looks anything like Y.F. I think it's just random markings....the little areas below his epaulets [ aka " shoulder pads" ] But nothing looks like Y.F.

Ok, so since my last post bug has developed patches of discoloration. They are only really clear when he is dark so I took some pictures this morning. They don't look like any pictures of yellow fungus I can find. They feel quite dry to touch. His appetite, poo and general behavior are good.
I'm going to monitor for a week in the hope that it's some kind of weird shed? I was thinking of doing a preemptive fungus treatment just in case, as if it is, it would be better to nip it in the bud.
Would the betadine (I got a diff brand picture attached) and lamisil cream do any harm?
And do you leave the betadine on or rinse of after the bath? With the cream do you just keep applying it to affected areas or wash old cream off first?

Those are patches and iodine/lamisil. And here is bug being impatient for his bugs!

Thank you!

Looks like a patch of dry skin, I don't think there's anything to worry about. :) The Antiseptic + lotion can be applied just as you suggested. The Lamisil could be washed off or dabbed off with a wet cloth, let dry + then re-apply. I don't think it's anything to worry about though.

It looks like retained shed to me. Have you tried soaking your dragon in warm water for 15 minutes a few times a week to see if it will loosen? You can take a soft bristle toothbrush and gently scrub the area after about 12 minutes into the soak to see if it will come off. You may want to try this before the Lamisil and betadine treatments. As previously posted, true YF must be treated internally and externally by a qualified vet very familiar with this disease.

Thanks for the replies :)
If the discolouration worsens, I note a change in behaviour or if it just doesn't get better I'll take him to my vet.
He hasn't shed his body for upwards of 3 months now, though he recently shed his head and legs. I bath him weekly and I've tried the soak/toothbrush trick to no avail.
I've read fungus can be a result of poor hygiene, I do a complete disinfection monthly but I've bought it forward in case there are bacteria/spores I can't see lurking somewhere.
I'm inclined to start betadine/lamisil treatment in the meantime anyway. Are there any side effects? And just to ask again do I leave the betadine on after his soak or rinse?
Sorry for being long-winded, here's a pic of bug chilling on my lap now.

Taken from an article published in Reptiles Magazine by Dr. Kevin Wright.

"Treatments a veterinarian would likely recommend

Voriconazole is an oral antifungal drug that has shown promise but there are few truly long-term (>24 mo) success stories at present. Oral combination treatments of terbinafine and itraconazole, or oral treatment with either alone, have not proved effective long-term. Skin lesions should be treated with povidone iodine once or twice daily. Topical treatment with antifungal drugs such as terbinafine, miconazole, or itraconazole, have not proven effective."

There is an extremely high probability that those who have treated successfully with only Monistat or Lamisil did not have YF to begin with but something benign.

Here is the link to the whole article, which describes the early stages and has some pictures of various lizards with it. (You previously asked for early stage pictures.)

I really think you just have some retained shed going on. But because you are concerned about YF, I posted an article by a respected professional in his field so you can have accurate information on its treatment.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
