Poorly girl - some advice please?

Hi guys,

Our girl seems to have gotten abit poorly in the last 12 hours. It has come on very sudden, what are your thoughts and suggestions to this please?

So I noticed she has been trying to poop a fair bit without success which leads to think impaction, however its odd because in the last 24 hours she has pooped a hell of a lot and they have been normal passes and nothing unusual.

This morning she pooped and then about an hour afterwards she appeared to vomit. I don't know if it was regurgitation or vomit though to be fair. It was mostly red and Im not sure if it was blood I cant be sure as she does eat fruit like blueberries and raspberries. since then she has the usual black beard and general docile state, pale all over compared to her usual colour that they do when uncomfy/poorly. Gave her a bath twice but no change. will be booking vet appointment but int he mean time whats the best thing to be doing for her?

Temps wise, Hot side is 110 and cool side 90.
Using Arcadia T8 strips for UVB (I think this is same as the US reptisun 10?
100W bulb for basking spot

Thanks

Hello,

The setup looks fine. How are you measuring the temperatures, with a temp gun or a digital probe?
I would recommend though, lowering the temperatures on the cool side down to around 80F. She could be getting a little overheated, possibly. When do you think you can get her to a vet?
Until you can get her in, just try to keep her calm & relaxed & warm overnight but not too warm. Around 80 or so is fine. How do her fat pads on her head look?
Has she ever laid any infertile eggs?
Let us know how she is doing in the morning.

Hi tracy,

the only thing regarding the temperatures is they have been setup like it for about 2 years now with no issues so It's odd that it would suddenly change. The overnight temp is always about 83. Managed to get her into the vet this afternoon so will be taking her in a little later.

she is currently dozing in the middle of the viv not doing a great deal but has alot more colour back than yesterday.
In regards to eggs she laid last about two weeks ago, she laid 19 decent looking eggs and infertile. Shes had a decent mix of locusts, dubias and veg and dusted generously in the 1st week. she was very active up until just yesterday.

Hello,

Oh ok, then if it has been working fine there is no need to change the temperatures.
That's good news she looks a little better today.
I am glad you got her into the vets today. How did that go?
Maybe she is low in calcium or iron from laying. Did the vet do a blood test? I hope she isn't having any egg issues!
Let us know how she is doing.

Hi,

update currently is that she is still poorly.... bad news being that the vet has NO IDEA about lizards so could do nothing, so currently looking around th area for smeone who isnt wasting time. Was not impressed at all!

In the mean time i have been daily bathing for half hour and massaging. shes managed to pass abit but im sure there is still more but she is still half perky/half not.

Awkward situation :( trying her with puree babyfood and water from syringe at the moment.

Hi,

Thanks for checking up I forgot to update as was quite sad.

Unfortunately she passed away the day before she was booked into a specialist vet :(
She's now been buried alongside her brother bless her. So now our baby has a double size viv all to himself and we will just let him grow up for abit before getting another.

What I cant understand is how she can go from healthy bright and bubbly to so poorly in like less than 24 hours, after healthy poops and no change in circumstances. So weird.

Sorry to dampen the morning guys!

I am extremely sorry for your loss, I know how heart wrenching it is to lose one!

After reading your thread this morning, I couldn't help but think about what you said about how the setup has been the same for two years.
How old are uvb lights? Those will lose strength after 6 months and need to be replaced by-anualy. If they where not working properly and, she had just played eggs, her calcium levels dropped hard. It is said that they need extra calcium during that time to pull out of it. Proper uvb levels are a must so they can absorb the calcium from their foods.

Hi, thanks :)

when I mean the same setup I meant the temperatures. I had coil UVB bulbs once upon a time but changed them to UVB strip lights 12% Arcadia T8, which were new ones only start of march. These were in after she laid eggs and she was then fed usual greens but alot more locusts and dubias covered in extra calcium dust and some vitamins.

Hello Lewis,

Oh no! I am so very sorry you lost her so suddenly like that, how awful.
My thoughts are that she probably had some type of egg complication or something that affected her.
How is your other one?
My sincere condolences for you.

Possibly to do with eggs yeah :(

as for Kike, he is now about 8 weeks old and growing nicely. Got him at 5 weeks and he was 14.5 cm, he's now 20.5 cm and fattening up nicely. will post you some pics of him and his new setup tomorrow :)

Hello,

I am sorry, so many females have trouble & by the time you figure it out, then
they are already having issues.
It sounds like Kike is doing well & is happy & eating a lot, too. :D

Hello -- I just found this thread this morning, and I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but I just wanted to point out that your other baby will do best if he continues to have the large vivarium all to himself, and if all goes well he will grow into it. Bearded dragons aren't really social with their own kind (except for mating) and he'll be safer by himself. If you're worried that he might be lonely, extra human cuddles and playtime might help if he seems to enjoy that, but be patient with him if he seems shy at first since he's still young.

It's also good that you found a vet who specializes in reptiles. Sorry that it had to be under such sad circumstances, but at least you have someone you can go to in the future.

Thanks for that.

Justso that you know, the viv is custom built and is essentially two large vivriums stack ontop of ne another so they are separately divided. We have decided not to get another for the time being and just focus with raising him. the lower viv is now for spare bulbs and keeping bugs etc.

hes having plenty of cuddles :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
