Thursday was my trash day at work, and as I was driving up to the dumpster two kids stopped me and told me not to throw my trash in because there were two "iguanas" in there. I looked in and saw a poor little beardie. They told me the other one was hiding in a verizon bag in the back of the dumpster. After reaching my hand towards the first guy and getting no aggressive response, I leaned right in and pulled him out. We had to use a branch off a tree to pull the bag over with the other dragon in it but got her out too. She was looking pretty heavy for such a sick dragon but obviously VERY hurt. I wouldn't even let animal control take them, not knowing how good of care they would get from the vet they bring them to. Instead I got them into the care of someone who rehabilitates reptiles, as I don't have the finances right now due to a recent move to take proper care of the poor little things. She has confirmed that one is a boy and one a girl, and updated me today to tell me both are eating and drinking but the girl has to be hand fed (you will see why!!) They are both going to the vet on Monday.
I warn you the pictures, especially of the female, are pretty bad. How someone can let beardies get THIS sick and then just throw them away in a dumpster!!!!
Here are pictures of the boy:
And this is the girl:
I am thinking that if the girls swelling in her gums goes down, hopefully her mouth will close up some and hopefully she will be able to eat without assistance. A few months down the line I will be in a better place financially, if she is able to eat on her own I may adopt her.
