This is a minor problem: Hugo ALWAYS poops on his basking platform.

Is this a norm? Just wanted to see if there is a solution,or any tricks to get him to poop on the paper towel. As soon as he poops, he will run to the other side, and wait for me to clean up. (Who is training who???)
He is only two months and the basking platform is the small corner zoo med basking platform, which seems big enough. Thanks for any advice.

It's normal don't worry! :) My girl has rocks under her basking light and that's where she goes all the time!!

So far I haven't found a way to stop her. Let me know if you do :p

Thanks for the reassurance. If this is the worse thing Hugo ever does, then I will be happy. This is day 17 with him, and I feel I have gained his trust. He loves to run up my arm, and sit on my shoulder, while I am walking around. He seems perfectly content checking out his surroundings.

SO NORMAL! Zuri and Kovu always poop on their caves/basking platforms. I don;t mind cleaning un, but it gets in the creases of the rock and is soo annoying. But Hugo is normal! :D And adorable!

yeah my guy would constantly poop on his basking platform until i removed and it exchanged it with some wood, now he just poops wherever, then tries desperately to get my attention to clean it out or he tries to get out of his tank.

Toothless has been pooping 2-3 times a day. Once in his bath 2x on his basking rock. He does not use the rock he tends to bask on his log. I don't mind him using the rock as its ez to clean. It bugs me when he uses the edge of the rock and the poo is half on the repti carpet.

Oddly enough I used to have the same problem - I had wood basking pieces and I would have to sterilize them after being pooped on so they would be without pieces for a day or so until it would dry back out. (I would have to rotate what they basked on.) I had read somewhere on here too that taking it away was a sign of "don't do that" kind of thing. And it definitely worked - knock on wood (no pun intended) - neither has pooped directly on ANY furniture in a long time - Perhaps it's just luck/chance - not sure - they now have a new method of pooping though (which is why I came to the forum today - to post a rant about it... lol)

Good Luck!

Beardies usually seem to have a regular pooping spot (allthough, thats just from the dragons I've seen so far..) However if you notice them pooping on a platform, just take them off, and try to remove the poop as soon as possible to prevent the smell penetrating the platform and place the poop in the sand for an hour or so.. if however they decide to take a dump somewhere else, preferably in the sand, reward them with a waxworm or some treat.. Allthough there probably isn't any proof this really works, but untill now, all my beardies, including those of some of my friends now all poop at 1 particular spot in front of the door, which is a hell of a lot easier to scoop up.. After they pooped they also start glass dancing like crazy untill I've cleaned it up..
Ofc I did this when they were still young, no idea if it still works when the've grown up..

my little one poops on her basking log too.

i put a paper towel on there every night, and sure enough she poops on it. then she kicks it aside and lays on her log.
i think she's starting to understand the paper towel thing now, sometimes when there is no towel she will poop off the side of the log. it doesn't always miss the log, but at least she's not in it.

and she watches me clean it up like it's the most fascinating thing in the world o.0

Haha, well when the're still small its not that bad, but they will get bigger.. But I have a feeling they can smell it, and that's where they will do their business.. so I suggest trying to remove whatever he poops on now, and putting the poop in the sand for an hour for the smell to penetrate..

If you would rather, coaxing a poo in the tub is easy because the water is warm just like their basking area. But that requires the time to bathe and clean the poo often. But it might be better than cleaning the rock.

Yeah, you could do that too.. the only problem is that if you're unlucky they might poop straight away, which means you'll have to refresh the water again.. But it's much more hygenical

My dragon regularly poops off the side of his basking platform, which invariably gets on the bottom and/or sides of it.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
