Poop Discrimination

okay, so only you guys will understand my excitement.
Syd pooped for the first time since I got him yesterday afternoon! Yayy!! :blob8: I guess that means he's digesting OK! I was starting to wonder. He's eating pretty good too for only having him a day, ate about a dozen dusted crickets, 4 wax worms and half of his salad already today! Apparently he has not problem adjusting to the new home!

I do have a question, are they discriminate about where they poop, or is it just anywhere? He did it in a back corner, so it got me wondering if they are like some animals and tend to poop in the same spot. I guess this question came up, because I wondered if once he gets a blankie/slipper to sleep in, would he poop in it?

It really all depends. Charlie would poop randomly in his tank for the first couple of weeks, and now he poops in the same general spot 95% of the time. He occasionally poops in his food bowl haha, little punk.

Well, poop is a favorite discussion on here so you'll learn that dragons are each unique. Some like to poo in the bath or just out of their viv in general, some seem to be bothered by their waste and have spots they like to go in so they can avoid that general area (can't blame them it is smelly), and some like to paint themselves and their viv with it. As long as you don't have one of the last kind cleanup is a cinch!!

I have 1 who poops only in the bath. I have 1 poop artist. 1 who if you dont give him a bath will poop on you just out of meaness. 2 who go in the same spot all the time. Just a bit of advise. Since this ones new to you. Make sure it poops before handling lol (baths work wonders for that)

LOL! Thanks everyone!
Syd has now pooped in three separate places, and one was on his basking rock. It was all over his belly, so i assume he has no problem with wallowing in it.. ICK! Good thing it's bath time as soon as I get home from work! I give him a bath while "daddy" cleans out the cage. So far he hasn't pooped in the bath, but I'm wondering if he isn't too thrilled with baths yet either. He just stands there, not moving at all. He's still young and my home is still new and scary, i'm sure he'll start enjoying it more over time.

i have 6 beardies and they are all diffrent!. peaches will not go in her cage has to be in water while getting a belly and back rub. falkor goes where ever he feels like!. brandy always goes in the same area and is real carful not to get any on her. ricco goes in or by his food dish. tater is anouther one he goes in the same genral area now bacardi she is a huge pain! she will go wherever she feels like she likes to go close to the door so it falls on you when you open the door and if its not cleaned up within like 3 minutes she paints the glass on her doors with it!

When my Pookie was a baby, he would only poop on his basking log, right over the hole. It was almost as if he was using the toilet, squatting over the hole and "plop!". At first I would panic because I couldn't find any evidence of poop, but then I started to see some leftover pee stains around the hole area, so I looked down and inside and sure enough, piles of poop.
Now, he'd still poop on his log, but more times than not it'd roll down onto the floor of his viv.

When first got my little girl, she would poop in the hardest places to clean. But after a couple weeks she started to poop right infront of the glass door on the cool side. I geuss she decided she didnt like the smell and wants me to see it so i can clean it up right away. But shes been going in pretty much the exact same spot everytime.

Boy.. the smell! You are right in that! I had no idea that a cage could reek so bad after a nice healthy dump! lol

Beardies are so funny with their poop preferances. We have 5, all adults now. 4 will poop in the bath, actually will hold it until they hit the water. Our youngest & biggest, Rubio, will only poop in his tank :banghead: and always in the same spot, just beside his basking rock  . I've seen him, he just juts out his butt from the rock and poops. So as the other 4 have reptile carpet in their tank, Rubio's got 1/2 reptile carpet (the cool, sleeping side) and newspaper on his basking side. He also hates his poop, even if it doesn't smell too bad & runs to the cool side. If we don't realize right away that he's pooped, he'll jump around like crazy, usually getting it on him, then all over his tank. So we're careful to check for poop during the day. :D

Have fun!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
