Ok so my new question is in my ten gallon tank I have a ceramic heat emiter for my baby dragon and should I put it on the cool side with my basking bulb? And also is Zoo Med Digital Thermometer 1.5" L X 2.25" W a good reliable thermometer???

I put my CHE next to my basking bulb
But i have mine on habistats to control the CHE
Whats this about the cool side?
could you post a picture of your setup??
You really just need to test the different watts out, i have been through so many bulbs testing them to get the right temps..

Since the tank is small I would go with a lower watt for now to make sure it doesn't overheat. When you get a bigger tank for him you can get a bigger bulb.

With the heat emitter I would put it wherever he likes to sleep (I'm assuming you're using it to keep him warm at night). Mine is just in front of the basking fixture because he likes to sleep in a spot near it.

I don't know about the thermometer, but if it's digital, it should be pretty good. A nice thermometer is the Accurite thermometer with probe found in the hardware section of Walmart (the indoor/outdoor thermometer section). I just got this for my tank, and it's awesome. Only about $10.

Hello,

WE are all here to help new owners! :D
If you wouldn't mind reviewing your tank setup with us, that will help us pin point any problem areas you may be having. Also, posting a few pictures of your tank would be helpful, as well.
Here is a questionnaire that we sometimes use, as a general base to get as much information gathered as possible, to help you out.

How old is your dragon?
How long have you had your dragon?
How long is your dragon?
What is the sex of your dragon?
What size enclosure do you have your dragon in?
What type substrate do you have on the bottom of your tank?
Do you use UVB lights?
If so, Is it a coil, compact, fluorescent tube, or Mercury Vapor bulb?
What is the brand name and number of your bulb? Wattage (if MVB)?
How old is your UVB bulb?
How close can your dragon get to the UVB?
Do you use a separate basking bulb? What kind and what is the wattage? Is it a white or colored bulb?
What are the basking temps?
What is the cool side temp?
Do you take the temps with a stick on thermometer, a digital thermometer with a wire and a probe end or a temp gun?
Where exactly are you taking your basking temps?
Do you use a heat rock or heat pad?
What do you feed your dragon? Please be specific.
How often do you feed and what time do you feed (morning, afternoon, night)?
Do you gutload (feed) your crickets, worms, etc?
Do you use vitamin or calcium supplements? What brand(s)? How many days a week do you use each of them?
Is your dragon having regular bowel movements (poops)?
Do you bath your dragon? How often?
Do you mist your dragon or offer water other than in the bath?
Does your dragon share an enclosure with another dragon?
Have you gotten a vet check and fecal done?

Thanks. I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Tracie
Yes, can you answer all of these questions?

The cool side needs to remain cool. Putting heat source on the cool side of the enclosure defeats the whole "cool" aspect.

If its a digi-thermometer with a probe you can place on the basking spot, then it will be fine. You need to measure basking spot temps, so either a probe or an IR temp gun will work. Are you talking about this one - http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=1714 ? If so, that will be fine.

for what bulb to use, it totally depends on your environment, and its ambient temps in the room, the colder the room the higher the watt you will need to keep a constant correct temp for the animal. i agree you need to test this to find the correct temps. you also need to make sure your CHE is on thermostat, a habistat or herpstat would be great.... one that auto adjusts is the easiest but they can cost quite a bit. honestly I don't know how easy it will be to get the proper temp gradient for your animal in a 10 gallon tank. how long is your dragon? a picture would help greatly in giving you advice. zoo med makes good products, although I still recommend an Infrared thermometer. where you put your che is up to you. I have my che on the opposite side of my viv as the basking bulb. but it is only on during the night when the lights are off and is only used to keep the temp above 68 in the viv. (my vivs are about 90 gallons for my adults.)

Please don't think we are telling you you're doing it wrong, we are just trying to help you out with the proper setup and care of your baby beardie.

Thanks,

Charles

I merged all the threads that were discussing the same issues. Hopefully I got them all. It gets too confusing for members trying to help you and also for you, trying to follow multiple threads. We try to keep the forum neat so from now on, please only start one thread discussing a certain subject.
Since you have several questions, I decided to put this thread in the Health forum.

If you could address the list of questions that were listed here, it will save everyone time and make sure that nothing is left out. Everyone wants to help but some things still remain unanswered. The quicker you respond to them, the sooner we can help get everything straightened out, thanks.

Yes they are good and to be expected. The numbers are different because the "stick on" thermometers can be inaccurate as much as 20 degrees.

The Zoo Med digital thermometers are pretty accurate, certainly more accurate than any type of stickon though.

I wanted to make sure you know how to use the probe thermometer. You need to make sure that the probe is right underneath the basking light and that the probe is actually touching the basking log or rock. Then wait about 45 min for the temp to stop rising before you get the final reading. Please let us know what the final reading is.

Also, when will you be able to answer the list of questions for us so we can help further to make sure the setup is perfect for your baby?

I have been feeding him live and dead meal worms brand (can-o-worms from my hand since he hasn't really eaten good and occasional crickets. And I dust his food with repti cal with vitamin d3 every other day witch I'm not sure I should do that since he's a baby or should I dust his food everyday?...but I keep his temp at 110 and 80 but I got regular thermometers so someone said it's bad so is a 75 wat bulb good for a ten gallon tank? And only I use a under the tank heater at night since my home gets cold but wen I shut the lights off and put the heater on he only stays in the same spot, he dosent go to were the heater is, so were he is it's 60 were on the heater side it's 70 what should I do?

I know there are going to be those that disagree with me, but if you are going to use dead feeders, my PERSONAL preference is to use freeze dried over can-o-insertinsecttype. The can-o's are cooked which can cause, from everything I read a great deal of nutritional loss, where as freeze dried it would seem looses less.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
