I know you weren't trying to scare me, I just hate this and want him to be ok. Not to mention, when I got him, he was a gift for my gf. She is extremely upset, which makes this harder. :( Thanks for posting the link to the other x-ray. I think I will take him back into my work tomorrow and see if we can do the same things for him as they did for their beardie. It seemed to work really well for them. As of now he is still walking fine. Thank you for your help and your thoughts!

That article is really great. Interesting that part of the treatment was a calcium shot. It's really good that he is walking fine and I really hope they can get him to pass this tomorrow morning. If I were you, I would continue to soak him tonight and again early in the morning.

Make sure you do NOT feed any feeders. Do you have applesauce or squash babyfood? Do you have any Pedialyte or Gatorade? Do you have any fruit juice?

It is a great article. Understandably, he's not a big fan of eating right now. I do have some applesauce, but it's sweetened. I definitely am going to give him a warm bath tonight and tomorrow and bring him back in. I will be back tomorrow to update.

If you can get more applesauce + olive oil into him, that might be really helpful. You need to keep him well hydrated orally, too. If you have some fruit juice, you can dilute it with water and give that to him. If not, you can give him plain water. All of that material inside of him is going to dry and harden, and will pull moisture from him and dehydrate him. You definitely need to make sure you are giving him plenty of oral fluids tonight and in the morning. He won't have a chance of passing that if it hardens inside of him or if he is dehydrated. Good luck!!!

Hi there,

How did it go today?

-Brandon

Everything has been improving alot! He has been passing a little bit of the shells each day. He hasnt been eating very much but i assume he will start again after he passes all of it. My work has been advising me to keep a close eye on him and that our x ray machine is not meant for small animals under 5 cm's thick. So i feel much better knowing that his impaction is not as bad as we had thought :) more to come in the next few days. Thank you everybody who has given us input on the subject and has helped us save him!

Hi Josh,

Oh thats great. I was wondering if that could be the cause of the strange X-ray.

So did you decide to get an enema done or not?

Great news that he is passing some each day. It's a step in the right direction.

The x ray machine is meant for dogs and cats, nothing smaller but i figured with the free access i would give it a try. I was advised by the one doctor who has worked with beardies before to not do an enema because sometimes it causes their already expanded intestines to burst. But he is passing it day by day and i am giving him water and apples in the morning and at night. Ill keep everybody updated until he has passed everything and is back to 100%.

I've been on vacation all weekend, and I had no computer access. I have thought about your dragon more than I have thought about my own. I really hope he is doing better today. I was really happy to come on here and see that you are seeing improvement. Kudos to you for your excellent dragon nursing skills. :D

I think you should give yourself kudos for giving me the right tips for getting him back to normal. That along with the vets at my work made the process as painless as possible for both me, my girlfriend, and stitch. He still has some time to go to pass everything but im sure he will be fine. The only problem I am facing is that at the moment he likes the corner of the enclosure where the uvb doest reach very well. Im hoping this wont affect his digestion that much. Any suggestions for this problem?

I know it is super stressful to have any animal be sick and to try and figure out what to do. When my Ginger didn't poop for over a week I freaked out inside and did a lot of research on impaction. She was fine and started pooping again with no worries, but I sure learned a lot about how to get them to go. LOL!!

What size tank is he in? And how far away from his UVB is he getting? Is he staying far from it all the time - I mean do you ever see him bask? (I feel like you posted pics of your enclosure at one point but it's hard to keep everyone straight!!)

Also is your UVB a tube and if so is there a reflector in the fixture?

Stitch passed a huge poop today that contained a good portion of the shells. Ever since he did that he has been acting so much happier. He has returned to his basking spot and has his mouth open with his tongue sticking out. Still not 100% but he continues to get better every single day. Thank you everybody who has given their input to save stitch from impaction.

This is great!

Hopefully with just a few more poo's it will all be out of him and he will be happier!

It must be such a relief to him if hes starting to act better.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
