My bearded dragon is, give or take, about 9 months old. We just finished her last bits of treatment for an upper respiratory infection and have almost completely reversed her metabolic bone disease! She looks great, but for the last 3 days her behavior has gone haywire. My fiancé and I don't know what to do anymore. We've contacted our local about it and all they are telling us to do is cover 3/4 of the walls in her cage. We have done that; however, she is still acting the same and we're worried because now she won't eat. She has been running around like crazy in her cage. We got her a new 40 gallon tank about a month ago from her smaller 20 gallon tank. Her temperatures are all good and where they're supposed to be. We feed her greens like kale and collard greens, we give her Dubai roaches, superworms, waxworms and once hornworms. All she wants to do is get out of her cage and won't stop. Her colors are normal and eyes are alart. Her beard isn't puffed out; however, her beard is now beginning to darken in color due to her stressing her body out trying to escape her home. She has done this for about 4 days straight. Does anyone know what to do?? Or what's wrong with her??

Thank you!

Hi there, it's possible that she is looking to lay eggs. You say she stopped eating and is very restless ? Any digging in the cornes ? If so, set up a medium plastic tote as a laybox. Get a 50 lb. bag of children's plsaysand and put it in about 10" deep. Ass warm water + mix until it's able to hold it's shape [ like making a sand castle ] but not too wet. Put her in there for a few hours a day. You can even pile the sand higher on one end to make a hill and then begin a tunnel for her.

Can you post pics of her + her set up ? Here's how :

Get a full body shot of her.

Her tank. (Note, nothing is in in because our vet said to take it out so she doesn't hurt herself)

She's a beautiful leatherback.

Looks very healthy to me ...

I don't see any evidence she's got eggs she needs to lay. I think you have a hormonal teenager on your hands - my solution when my beardies hit THAT was lots of extra floor fun time essential til they dropped , and they then either got cuddles or returned to their rearing tubs.
9-10 months seems to be an age when they suddenly get a rush of hormones and start acting up.... fear not , it wont last long , you will survive a torrid few months , and she'll be back to her old self before long (until next spring).

oh thank goodness! We have been absolutely worried sick trying to find the problem! Thank you, we love her very much. What should we do about her eating then? She won't eat her Dubai roaches, superworms or her kale and collard greens. She doesn't like any other vegetable; however, she will eat her wax worms, but that's all she wants to eat and we don't want her getting use to that? Also so we just need to let her out a lot more and she'll be back to herself soon? We don't take her out that often, just maybe an hour a day. Thank you so much!!

I agree, she looks the picture of health, you've done a great job with her. Don't discount the fact that she may be carrying eggs....you can not tell when they carry infertiles so to say you can't see evidence of eggs doesn't mean anything. Just be aware that it can't be ruled out. Are you sure about her age ?

And yes, this behavior can just be from restlessness + need some time to run around. If you let her out be SURE there's nothing on the floor [ coins, rubber bands, etc ] that she could try to swallow, beardies are prone to that. I would also put a nice basking log back in for her, even a low one..... without a climbing area a beardie can get stressed.

We bought the play sand to make her something in case she has eggs. We are positive she is between 9-10 months old. I moved her bed and put a log there right under the basking light instead. She still wants out. The second I take her out her dark beard goes away. Is there anything we can do about her appetite? She hasn't eaten and won't eat anything. I just went to my local petco and a few other petco and non of them have wax worms. Is there a way to get her to eat her usual food? We really don't have a different choice.

I saw the other thread you made....it turns out that an Xray shows eggs ? Do you have the Xray to post pics here by chance ?

Yes I do see them....good thing you set up a laybox. Although sometimes they actually end up laying the eggs somewhere else, silly girls. How is she acting now ?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
