Pinkies???!!!

Alright, I've read that it's ok to give an adult beardie pinky mice from time to time. I've also read that this is a major no no. I don't feel comfortable giving pinkies to mine when they are full grown adults....especially since you can't seem to get a straight answer on this! I just wanted to know everyone else's thoughts on this. Do you give them pinkies? Why or why not?? Is it safe to give them pinkies? To me it just doesn't seem right....but then again I DON'T KNOW LOL guess that's why I'm asking, huh?

Two of my females eat them. My male doesn't want anything to do with them. I don't have a set schedule as to when I feed them to my dragons. Maybe once every two weeks. Sometimes more, sometimes less. When I do feed pinkies, I feed two f/t rat pinkies per female.

Most issues people have with pinkies comes from digestion issues, which is more to do with basking temperatures then it does with the food item.

I have given tyson 2 frozen pinkies about two weeks apart because he was not eating because of shedding. He digested them fine but I dont plan on giving them to him that much because of how high in fat they are. I personally think they are ok if they are given occasionally.

People usually feed pinkies to their female bearded dragons after they lay their eggs to get their weight back up.

It's perfectly fine on occasion, but like any other food high in fat, shouldn't be a staple. I know plenty of breeders and very experience keepers that give them to females who crave/need the extra fat during breeding, or to dragons who simply need to put on weight (NOT babies, like.. Rescue adult cases).

Well its better then people feeding them baby leopard geckos like i seen on certain videos, people can be cruel.

leopard geckos??? Are you kidding me???? That is just down right wrong!! People make me sick. I mean, I know that there are people who would freak over feeding them the pinkies cause it's "cruel" but if it's a food chain thing I'm cool with it. But feeding one lizard to another just cause they are smaller or cause someone thinks it's funny is just sick!!!!

I dont feed pinkies. I had one of my females get a nast parasite infection from them. Vet said its just one of those things that can happen.

We have had a major struggle the past two months with getting Tyson to eat any protein, so we prefer he have a mice than no protein. He is 10 months old and still needs protein so we'll give it anyway he'll take it. As for the parasites, his are frozen and then thawed in very hot water. I think it'd be very hard for a parasite to survive that.

I've Tried giving mine a pinky and at first he didn't want it then after a while he grabbed it up and as soon as blood came out he dropped it out of his mouth and ran to the basking spot since it was on the other side of the cage. So I now have a month old mouse, since i had two lol. But as soon as I brought out the roaches he starts going wild lol
